I'm a Big Fan of this scope!  2 of its details really catch my eye:  The external / exposed Rack & Pinion Focuser, and the Finder & Brackets - raised tube rims + "fixed" front ring with 3-screws back ring...

IOW:  Overall, all the attention to details!

Thank you Bob!  I think it is unusual that the focuser is in this position. But that was sold in its production in this form . My luck that all fits together very well now

No cheap scope over 100 years ago !!. .Real french craftsmanship. It was sold for 2900 french franc in 1911.  When a worker got 200 franc per month!

Today i got the Manent telescope on an 1980s VIXEN DX mount. I will finish the original mount over the next weeks.

Great find, the objective seems to be in good shape. Just think, some very famous astronomers could have viewed through that scope 100 years ago, when observing was starting out. Maybe this fall, you can take a picture of Jupiter and Saturn through this scope, and share it with us.

Hello Billy,

do you think any famous french astronomer could have used this telescope?  I think this is more a smaller 4 inch refractor for private use, even 100 years ago. I may be wrong.

Sure it was not cheap then with nearly 3000 franc in 1911.  I think only rich people could afford such an expensive scope then.

Michael
