I am looking for a better telescope for astrophotography. I live in area where there is heavy light pollution. Mounted over Advanced VX mount, EdgeHD + Hyperstar and RASA seems like good choices. The price for 8inch are more or less same right now. Does anyone have used both and can compare them?

I have a c11edge and use hyperstar with it. Not exactly the same model you are asking about, but I will give you my two cents. If I was you I would grab the c8 edge. You will have f2, f7, and f10 capability. F2 imaging is awesome, but if ur like my you are going to want to visually look at the moon and planets sometimes. Also if you go with the Rasa then you are stuck with wide field. You will find targets like galaxies that you will want to get closer and that’s where being able to switch the camera to the back will come in handy. Just my two cents.

Thanks. C8 == https://www.celestro...dgehd-telescope? (Just making sure we are talking about the same thing.. )

For VX mounts, how do we calculate the amount of counterweights that is needed? I have Celestron focuser + Starsense autoguider and ZWO ASI678MC camera.

Yes I’m talking about a c8. I have a c11, but everything I said be the same for a c8. As for counter weights just see what your it’s weight and accessories combined are and match the counterweights close as you can. You can be off a little bit since the weights move up and down the bar on the mount. I think a c8 is around 14 pounds and the accessories you listed are probably another 2 or 3 pounds. The mount will come with counter weights. Also if you can afford it I would suggest a CGX mount or skywatcher eq 350 pro. A good rule of thumb is to pay more for your mount than the telescope.
