Have you heard the plight of the Youtuber "Telescope Boss"? He has an Orion Skyquest XXG 16" scope, like the one I have, and he posts live views through the telescope using a gen3 night vision device. His scope drive was acting up, so he paid hundreds to mail it in for warranty work. Then Orion/Mead went out of business. They are not answering his calls and he can't get his scope back. How many Mead/Orion scopes are caught up in this disaster? And, it appears from CN posts, they are still taking orders. He has a Youtube short discussing the matter.

There is another customer I know has posted from the UK. His $5000+ solar telescope is in Meade’s possession for repairs. He also has had no response as to the status of his equipment. I hope the company does the right thing and returns equipment in for repairs.

I'm just glad I got my 12" Meade back from the factory in January.  Sympathies to anyone with stuff stuck at Meade (or Orion) and of course thankful to have gotten this posted before the moderators locked the thread!!

I was alerted to this this morning. Notice the note at the top...

Be very careful ordering anything from any Meade/Orion dealer.

Hi - I'm going to close this simply because a decision has been made that until an official announcement is made about the situation at Meade/Orion, we run the risk of perpetuating information that might not be true. That would serve no one.

The advice is to check with Sky and Telescope and see if there's an update on the situation, or hope that Optronic can clarify things.

We're not wanting to stifle legitimate debate, but we also don't want to cause any potential confusion.

Due diligence complete....

Sky and Telescope News (their online website) updated their notice about Orion’s possible closure on July 31st to state that the Orion website (telescope.com) had gone blank. With the cessation of Orion’s online presence, I think that the possible is now more than probable. As Sherlock Holmes was known to say:

“When you have eliminated the impossible whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.” (The Sign of the Four, 1890, by A. Conan Doyle).

And:

When all other contingencies fail, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.” (The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans, 1908 by A. Conan Doyle).

I believe Spock said something similar.
