A new to me 8SE can move in altitude with slight pressure on the OTA when mounted and no power is applied. Is this a fault or should it effectively resist any movement in altitude. I'm completely new to SCTs and for that matter computerized telescopes. I have yet to try to get it balanced using the pencil trick as I'm still configuring accessories - 9x50 RACI, Telrad, Dew control, home brew light weight dew shield, RunCam 3, 6.3 reducer and stuff.

It's okay to gently/slowly move the mount in the Altitude direction when the mount is POWERED-OFF.  Be very gentle though.  Doing this, one is causing the gears to spin, and in turn the motor to spin.  So take it slowly to not overly stress all of those plastic parts.
