What would you suggest as my next mount for astrophotography?

Seestar S50? It apparently finds, centers, guides, stacks, processes, and posts without you having to lift a finger!

What do u want to do? viewing? imaging? planetary? deep sky nebula, galaxies? that's what i would have guide my decision. that would determine aperature size; mount type; gem / alt az or whatever. Weight; portability. grab 'n go or observatory. and, oh, cost

I used the Meade lx850 for years and was completely spoiled by starlock's ability to handle all the finding, centering, and guiding. Alas, with the demise of Meade, I'm ready to move on.

If you like the Meade LX850 why not just keep it till it quits and you can't get parts to fix it.

Not many classic mounts are that good for AP work.

that all depended on how much guiding you wanted to do.

Not one sec for me. Never wanted to deal with taking pics.

We don't know that Meade is dead dead. They just aren't in CA now. Well, they aren't in Watsonville. I am sort of baffled by "I love my mount, but it has to go."

Anything already designed with stepper motors can be converted to OnStep more or less easily. And that project just gets better and better. It's much more important to have reliable and accurate hardware - meaning hard.

If your mount is doing what you need why replace it?
