For anyone who has tried both, any differences between the vintage Celestron orange tube C-80, and the later made ones, the black tube C-80's. Just talking about the Japan made, not the new Chinese ones. The Orange tube ones just seem to say Celestron, I guess from way back when I use to look at the ads from the early 80's.

I had asked about this same scope maybe 7 or 8 years ago, but have lost the thread, so do not get upset because I brought it up again.

The Vixen made C80s are super sharp. The orange are just more rare and unique. There’s one available in California now for $250 which I believe is a good bargain.

The orange ones have a collimatible cell, never saw that on a black one.

The Orange tube, Vixen-made C80 I used to own outdid a 4.25 Schiefspiegler I had at the time. It was always ready to go in an instant and the images it displayed were always wonderfully sharp and steady.

While I prefer the aesthetics of the orange tube models, the black C102 refractor I currently own is likewise superb!

That is OK, I like to read anything about Japan made Vixen scopes. The orange tube ones do have a nostalgic effect.
