I wouldn't think that much. I'd sell a set for that in a heartbeat if someone was happy to pay it.

Excellent deal on an observer's scope.
While the 6" F8 AP is a fine refractor and this is a nice deal, the 6" F8s do not have better color correction that the latter 6" F9 Starfires had.
The 6" F8s were produced from 1985 to 1988. The 6" F9 Starfires were produced from1987 to 1990. While both the 6" F8 and the 6" F9 refractors contained no ED glass, the 6" F9s used 2, special dispersion flint glasses and were longer at F9. That combination, according to Thomas Back, made the 6" F9 Starfires almost the equal of the later AP Starfires that all used ED glass.
The 6" F8s are wonderful and this is a good deal. But for those looking for an older AP, given the choice, look for the 6" F9s – if you can find one that is.

Is that the first appearance of the NASA glass? The f/9s?

No. That was previous. And those runs were limited.
From Thomas Back...
"The first ad that I am aware of was in Sky and Telescope
magazine, December 1981. Two lenses were offered: A 6" f/11
magnesium fluoride coated oil triplet for $1800, and a 8" f/11 for
$3600, both in cell. These lenses proceeded Roland's article in
Sky and Telescope, October 1981, page 376, "An Apochromatic
Triplet Objective." This was a groundbreaking article, and was
the beginning of the new age of Apochromatic refractors. The
prototype was a 5" f/12, and was shown at the Riverside
Telescope Making Conference. The images of Jupiter impressed
the attendees beyond any telescope on the field, and won the
prize for the most innovative optical design.
"Roland was very fortunate to find a large supply of an abnormal
dispersion flint, similar to Schott KzFS-1, but even better in its
color correcting properties. In fact, it was ordered by NASA, but
was never used. When Roland found that the supply was available
for sale, he gladly bought it up. By-the-way, this "NASA" flint glass
was the ultimate in short KZ flint glass. No manufacture supplies
a flint glass that can match its abnormal dispersion properties
today."

Nice little Edmund 3"F6 with 3 RKE eyepieces and a RKE barlow included. Guess the price is fair considering the eyepieces. https://lancaster.cr...7771211816.html

The book is always a rare find. Mine came with one. Been living in a bag? Nope, still living in its proper place. It screws onto the cell so maybe the seller didn't know, or didn't want to deal with that. Anyone near Collinsville, OK needs to grab that ASAP!

I would get that regardless if it was 20 minutes from me.

Looks like a 10" Starfinder. They probably measured the tube diameter.

The mount is worth $800. So finding a 6 inch f9 for $2400 would be a task in itself, if the goal was not to exceed the price of the set up for sale. Likely, that mount and a 6 inch f9 would probably run about $6000.00. This six inch f8 went for $5K without a mount.

I do not think the mount is included according to the ad. It's just a Meade Lxd75 on a pier. An ok mount and the pier would help but not worth 800.00 in my opinion and I would think a bit unstable with that OTA. I bought a used Lxd75 for far less a couple of years ago.

I had a 6" F8 AP. If it was the only scope I ever owned I would be very happy. it was much better than the APM 6" ED.
