I have a 12" Meade LightBridge that needs (see attached image) a primary mirror replacement after 15 years of use.

MeadeLight Bridge specs:

12"

f/5

1524mm focal length

GSO mirror specs:

12

f/5

1500mm focal length

Will the GSO mirror work in the 12" LightBridge?

Thank you for your help.

The Meade Lightbridges were made by GSO, so the GSO mirror should fit.

But your mirror probably just need to be realuminized. This can, however, depending on where you live, be almost as expensive as a new mirror... undecided.gif

Have you given the mirror a good cleaning? I use the OWL fingertips technique. I used to use cotton balls but the mirrors never came out bright and shiny.

That mirror just needs a cleaning.

Life expectancy of a mirror is 10+ years, and I have many older ones, that still look like new.

+1 on cleaning it first using the OWL method then evaluate. Dawn dish soap works great! waytogo.gif

These spots definitely don’t clean. I’ve tried. These spots are hard to describe, but they’re part of the mirror now. There’s like a tiny black spot at the center of each splotch, and the splotch is embedded in the silver emanating outward. It’s completely smooth except for the center spot which is like a tiny pit.

If I could one off I’d work at the rest. I can’t get one off. I took the mirror out and tried like hell.

So, depending on your patience and budget, place an ad on the CN classifieds for a used mirror w/ good coatings or buy a new mirror.  You can sell the original mirror at a very significant discount to someone willing to risk it.  The word "pit" is scary.

Thanks. I may look into getting it re-aluminized.

I’ll post back when I find out more.
