I am used to being able to point at a picture in PI, and at the bottom of the screen I see a report of the area covered by the readout cursor showing the horizontal and vertical position AND THE VALUE (intensity) of the area ([ixel) pointed to.

But somehow the Value is no longer showing down there.

What do I do to get it back?

I must have flipped a switch in the configuration somewhere, but I cannot see where.

In the bottom of the Pixinsight Window, click on the cursor icon to configure what the cursor shows when moving the cursor over the image.

Thanks for the idea.

Ok, I got it back,  but the problem was not the configuration that told it to display that value, but the way the control bar was displayed. Respacing the display in the Control Bar made it visible again.
