Hi All,

Slightly improved seeing yesterday for Mars, as well as bitterly cold.

There seem to be white and yellowish clouds on the NW limb, echoing the recent images showing blue and white water vapour clouds from the North Pole that are spreading south into dust-affected regions around Chryse and Lunae. There is a dark patch in the middle of Hellas.

Best wishes

Mark

Fresh off the press Mark! smile.gif waytogo.gif  We might image on this coming Saturday morning at the spot where I contracted Ross River virus last year bigshock.gif but if we do I intend using the ASI462MM for Mars which might make cloud identification a bit easier...but will keep the old 224MC in earlier for an attempt at the double moon transits of Saturn much earlier in the night... fingerscrossed.gif

Very nice Mars. Not too much cloud or dust, only a very slight difference in detail between the IR/UV and the 685nm. The cold has not hurt the seeing here and I just hope the cold has no ill effects on you.

Sounds good possibly if it lasts, this is roughly CM on Saturday morning for us!

Looks like your image picked this up also Mark - pardon my annotated screenshot of your images! smile.gif (in both images btw)

Thanks for the likes and comments.

The Edom bright spot/dust storm is interesting, though the evidence to me looks a bit marginal in my image. I don’t recall seeing any brightness in the live feed. You guys have much more experience in this than me. Looking forward to seeing how this develops.

Don't forget that osc's in general are not the best for revealing these features Mark and the feeds less so again - although I can quite clearly see it in your image! That's why I think it is high time I pulled out the ASI462MM for our Saturday morning's (hopefully!) attempt. fingerscrossed.gif

Gave it an indoor workout to see how clean the sensor is today! grin.gif

Yep you’re right- I’ve been putting it off but it’s time to break out the RGB imaging. We can do this!

I see on my page: https://www.alpo-ast...ing_Mars_5.html  that I left the Edom cloud/white area out for some reason.  Observers have reported that for centuries and I forgot it!  confused1.gif   Maybe it is because we made separate reports on that area.  See this post: https://www.cloudyni...pot/?p=10542673

The Dobbins Sheehan article on the Flare in Edom can be found at: http://www.alpo-astr...nFlaresALPO.pdf

That's a plan?  Going back to the place that almost killed you doesn't sound like a good option to me.

Do you mind if I use your Mars image showing Edom https://www.cloudyni...024/?p=13613028) in the Mars Observers Handbook: https://www.alpo-ast...

I have several but yours is recent.

Jeff
