Perhaps it was because of another post tonight about collimating an Astroscan. But I looked out the study window and there was the crescent moon just about to drop below the tree line. Something came over me, combined with laziness, but I pulled out my Astroscan and it's mount:

drew up the blinds in the window, popped in a 25mm Plossl, and held my iPhone up near the EP. This is what I caught through a not-so-clean double-paned window:

Not going to win any awards, I know laugh.gif , but it has it's charm, I think, artistically, no?

You're right Gary, the pic has a certain artistic appeal. Good for you for giving into an impulse, and sharing :-)

Nice photo.

Reminds me of my early days as a star gazer. I spent hundreds of hours in my teens observing the Moon through my AstroScan. I bought a Edmund RKE 8mm eyepiece for it, just for observing the Moon, and even attempted to draw (badly!) a lunar map of my own. The evening crescent phase was always my favorite phase and I loved exploring the Mare Crisium and surrounding area, or the line of craters from Langrenus to Furnerius. I could even see the rille in Petavius.

I still use my AstroScan occasionally, but nowadays I use a more modest 15mm eyepiece with it for nice low power views.

Thanks guys! It is a fun scope. I forgot how heavy it actually is wink.gif

In case anybody is interested, someone is selling 3D printed dew shields for the astroscan on ebay. Eight sold in the last 24 hours? 🤔
