Another Newbie question for the group: I am looking for a clock drive that will work with my Mayflower 816. What type of mount does my Mayflower 816 have?  I should have specified which type of EQ mount based on Eye stein's response..  Is the mount an EQ-1 or EQ-2 mount or something else?

Well it looks like an EQ-1 to me.  There are a number of RA motors for these earlier models, the same basic mounts are still produced today, and you should be able to find one that has an adjustable motor speed, to avoid having to locate a specific motor for this specific mount.  Once you get the motor, at least the ones I've bought, there should be a couple of different adapters for attaching it to the mount fairly simply.  Celestron still sells one but there are others, as well.

IMO, EQ-1 and EQ-2 are just rough terms for a mount's weight class.

Being a 816 (76mm) many might consider it a EQ-2.

But it's more about what's going to fit and since it's an old mount you are going to have to adapt something like the Celestron mentioned above.

The biggest hurdle might be, how you provide some kind of clutch for the drive and the RA slow motion.

Hopefully someone who's done something similar will chime in.

Sorry, but I forgot I  do have a clock drive with reversible motor and  off/on switch plus  speed control.

it requires 2 -9 volt  battery's. It came with another scope I bought along with other astro parts  they had on hand.

If I set the speed control to halfway point,it gives 1 rotation in 12 mins .

Let me know if you are interested as I will probably be putting it up for sale soon.

Joe
