Potter County took a big hit - roads closed, bridges out, Gaines with massive floods, water out in Galeton, Coudersport cut off?? due to multi-closures or Rt-6.

I saw one picture of a flood of muddy water flowing over the Lyman Run Lake dam. Not sure about road to CSSP from Lyman - but many roads closed, and homes/camps washed away in the county.

I guess I ain't goin' to Cherry Springs for the Perseids.

Hope that CSSP didn't sustain damage, and the roads are open by BFSP at least.

Trying to do an online search for CSSP, and Potter county in general for damage, is 200% useless. So I suppose I will have to use my Brother's computer to visit FarceBook to have a look. Plus look at "news" stations on YouTube.

I did hear the field at CSSP is incredibly soft and muddy in spots.  And the road between there and Lyman run was closed.  But other roads in that area, including Rt 44 are fine. However that doesn't include the Little Kettle Creek bridge area, and another low lying area not far (from my direction) before the intersection with 144.  The field will drain off in about a week and should firm back up nicely though for BFSP.

I suppose the Adirondacks will have to suffice for the Perseids.

From Susan Schneck on the Cherry Springs State Park Starry Night! FB page:

❗⚠️ Hello stargazers! ✨ I strongly encourage you to reschedule visits planned for the park this weekend, August 9 - 11, 2024.
We have experienced heavy flash flooding in the area, portions of roads may be washed out or covered in debris for the remainder of the weekend.
First responders and emergency crews are hard at work, please don't add to their workload by driving through floodwater or debris. I know the timing isn't ideal with the Perseid Meteor Shower, but please stay safe out there.
I will give another update tomorrow evening as conditions change. (Photo from last week for the algorithm)

My wife and I camped through the storm. Rain started in the early AM hours Friday and intensified, peaking late Friday morning/early afternoon and ended later afternoon. Power went out but was back on by Saturday AM. We had a couple of clear hours Friday night and a nice clear night last night (Saturday). The field was largely drying out by Saturday PM. We're leaving Tuesday.

All roads to Cherry Springs are open at this point.  There is some limited lane travel near "Switchback Farms" on West Branch Road if you are familiar with that section of road.  A culvert is clogged and water was continuing to flow over the road until Penn DoT can clean it out as of Monday.  The Night Sky Public Viewing Area, temporary parking (because of the construction) and some portions of the Overnight Astronomy Observation Field are soggy and slowly drying out.  We did ask the public to reschedule visiting just because of the probability of becoming stuck.  We did have just under 5 inches of total rain fall in about a 4 hour period, most falling between 10 AM and noon.  Cherry Springs other than being soggy, pretty much came out unscathed.  Lyman Run and Denton Hill State Parks took minor erosional damage on campsites and park roads, the beach was a mess but hopefully will be open by this coming Friday. Route 44 has no closures, Route 6 is now reopened, Route 49 which parallels Route 6 to the north still has closures.  East Fork Road is now open as well.

Note on the lower end of Rt 44 coming via Rt 220, there are a couple of areas with road construction down to a single lane.  Still plenty passable, but with delays for oncoming traffic getting their turn to pass.  This was already planned by PennDOT even before Debby so is not related.

Thanks Scott!  Hope to see you at BFSP in a few weeks after things have dried out and gotten back to normal.
