What a turnout! Starfest in Ontario seems to be growing yearly, it certainly seems that way considering the twenty or so plates i spotted from the US and other nearby provinces which is a great thing!. Some say our hobby is dying but not if this years event is any indication. On site there were merchants, a bbq food truck and all the amenities one can ask for, a highlight for me was a speech by Dr. Sarah Seager MIT who I have seen in countless episodes of NOVA on PBS, feel like I grew up with her lol. This year I chose to go light and leave the dob at home (car is small) so I brought my FS128 and my Lunt 60. Just prior to leaving for Starfest I chose to pick up a Kendrick white light filter and boy was I impressed with the detail and sharpness of those many sunspots on display right now, I was missing out on white light (a hershel wedge is in my near future). Sunspots were just plain awesome, a detail and structure not seen in HA, everyone who stopped for a look at the sun was blown away by the white light views through the 128. Below I included an image which was shot literally phone to eyepiece handled, what a great time! it was an event to remember and I can't wait for next year, see you there!.
