I have a ZWO ASI178 that I am trying to mount on the back of the explore scientific ED80mm refractor telescope. I have attached the CMOS detector without the all sky lens directly to the two 2" extension tubes to the back of the rack-and-pinion focuser which itself comes with a small ~0.75" tube. When viewing trees far away, I am able to get my guidescope which uses the ZWO ASI120 to focus on the trees; however, I get nothing but black screens on my ASI178. I do get frames and can see changes in the pixel values when I shine a flashlight directly on the scope, so I do not have a software or communication issue with the detector. I have also tried various combinations of the extension tubes (1 versus 2 versus 0) and scanned the focuser across all values. I have also played with the exposure and gain settings on the ASI178 to no avail. Does anyone have any advice to what I am doing wrong? Thank you in advance for your comments
