Western Veil

Mount: Advanced GT
Telescope: Astroch 80 ED
Image Camera: ASI585mc pro
    Gain 252, Offset 30, Exposure time 60s
Filter: ZWO uv/ir

8.7 hours after rejects, 2 nights of imaging with the moon at 72 percent the last night.
    * First night forgot the dew heaters, lost time imaging.
    * Second night, I remembered the dew heater but I wasn't that happy with a lot of the individual subs.
    * HFR was nice(mid 2's) now that I have the uv/ir filter and also have the auto focus pretty much nailed down now.
Flats, bias, darks taken.
Smoke wasn't that bad.

First night, I forgot to turn on the dew heater. I am sure I tossed a lot out of that night. Second night, even with the dew heater on.  I wasn't really happy with the how the imaging turned out.  The dew was high, so there was a lot of water in the air.

Stacked with Sirill and post processed in Pixinsight

Eh, needs more time but the weather is no cooperating.  That and the moon is getting bright.  Can tell I haven't done any imaging lately.  My post processing was a mess.  Can't decide what I really think of it.  Would be nice to have had a dual narrow band filter to combind with the rgb.  But that isn't happening for a while.

Final note: Man, I can tell I haven't imaged lately. My post processing took way longer than it should have because I just kept forgetting steps.

best picture i've seen from you dan

Thank you.  I do think the uv/ir filter, even if it was only 22 dollars helped my stars.  And I FINALLY got really close to what I wanted from my auto focus.  Strange, I just doubled my backlash on it.  Probably both changes helped improve things.

This was also the first image I posted with the new camera where I had the all correct calibration files.  I know, sounds stupid. But everything was correct finally. Gain, Offset, exposure time, rotation, flats.

There are a couple lessons learned with this image.  I am going to have to stay with shorter exposure times.  These were only 60s.  But my mount just isn't good enough to do real long exposures with the sensor on the camera.  Thats fine, I am now able to stack with sirill.  Actually might restack this iwth WBPP.  Thinking about it.  Never know, might throw it on before I go to bed.

Again, thank you.

Dan

As an update, because I have a book going that will probably keep me occupied the rest of the night.  I decided to process the data through wbpp this time.  The 8.7 hours are before rejects, not after.  I'm really courious to see how much data really is there after rejects.

Just courious to see the results.

First Image, Sirill stacked with post processing done in pixinsight

Second image, WBPP stacked with registration and intigration done on each channel then combined in post edit with pixinsight.  The stars are from the origional sirill stack

I'm not sure why the colors are different.  Seperat registration and intigration on the channels brings out more blue?  I do like the stars better though out of the sirill stack.  I just think they look better then what wbpp gives me.

All though, you can see that the stars are in different places.  The combination of the stars from the two different software stacks stands out with placement of the stars. Interesting. I'll stick with liking the sirill stack better.

Hmm, I wonder if I it has to do with wbpp cropped and I bet that the sirill stack didn't.  Wonder if I should have cropped down the stars of the sirill stack to be the same size as the wbpp stack.  Have to think on this.

It's fun to play.  Sorry
