Unfortunately our featured member wasn't able to share their information in time for the September restart.Hopefully we can coordinate that effort in one of the coming months.

The basic guideline for this thread is to list ads and auctions for classic/vintage scopes and associated accessories that others may be interested in. Do not post your own ads or the ads of your friends, this includes items you may be trying to sell for someone else. We request that you do not post photos from ads. If you must have some reference to a photo in the post, post a link to the photo, not the photo itself. Concentrate on the item for sale, and not the seller.

Please post a live link to the item.  Do not post "PM me for the link".Short discussions can take place about the items listed. When quoting a post, edit the quoted post to include only the part you are replying to. Do not post the entire ad text, or large blocks of it, without permission from the author.    Keep on topic,   please!

Buyer Beware- CN is not responsible for any of the ads or auctions posted here or their content. There are some scams floating around, so do your homework before pursuing any ad.

and this note from the moderators

Let's remember everybody, there's no one place that has all the best-used scope finds just as there's no one place that never has anything. All have something. No need to beat subjective matter, whatever the topic, into the ground. For the sake of all of us who love the classic forum, please keep moving the thread forward. Remember that many of your fellow forum members are already vintage themselves. Instead of restating your opinions over and over, consider sharing something new, insightful, or otherwise constructive to the topic at hand.

so the Meade 16" from the last two days of wonderful posts is a LX 850 ACF F8 SCT.   That should be a really good performer.   Have not heard anything bad about the LX850 scopes.

I'm assuming local buy with undamaged optics...

- ATLAS is goofy, but a Steal.

- SHRINE is a jumble, but a Good Deal, with the Horiguchi rather than APL mark.

- DYNASCOPE is a Steal.

- GOTO is a Good Deal (less than half the ZEN + shipping).

Same seller I just bought from. If someone buys this setup and wants a shorter pier, I've got one to trade.

(Only if the taller one is 10" diameter. Looks like it might be an 8" diameter.)

Also, pricing is up front in the title.

Yes, the scope is a steal for that price.  It is identical to the one I purchased a few months ago, but it didn't  have a mount.  I believe they were built from '57-59.

They have some very nice features.  Great optics!  Rotating rings, circular vane for the secondary, and the focuser has a draw tube with R&P.

If it was local for me, I would grab it.

I'm 100% serious!  IF Ole BB lived within 100 miles, I'd be making a road trip in our Antique CRV (1999 w/ 251K!) -- to heck with sciatica!!

What's up with the Dynascope's tripod hub? Looks large and heavy (like a weight) on one side. I don't remember that. I'll have to Google them. Are they all like that?

Took another look and made a close up.

Appears to be a EP holder made from an old coffee can.

HA!,  I thought it was some kind of lead weight poured in a coffee can to help seize the altitude adjustment. That's because I have something like that, an ATM counterweight made that way.

Here's a rather uncommon Meade 2040 - $120 (so far):

https://www.ebay.com/itm/126646797310

I have a Meade 2040 and a 2045 and although I like them both, the single arm mount on the 2040 is both lighter and more convenient to use.  The lever type declination lock is nicer than the rotary lock on the 2045, the dec knob is longer and the single arm is slightly taller.   If you don't already have a 2040/2045, it's a nice size and very well made (in Japan).  If you already have a 2045 spotter, then this might be worth it just for the mount.

2040 and 2045 compared:

p.s. The serial number for this 2040 is: 401044.  Mine is 401110.

Actually, I planned to not renew, but I lost communication with an ongoing transaction and was only able to finish the deal by renewing. Plus all your messages and transaction history become inaccessible.

I was about to bid on this, but I read the seller’s feedback and quickly abandoned it. Biggest complaint is poor packing.

Not been on AM for years. Just don't sell or buy like i did in the 90's and 2000's. I was going thru so many scopes like 10 a month when i came into money 3 times back then. If i got back into shipping i would go back to AM.
