I am restoring my wife's 10" Meade Starfinder Dob, which she gave away to an educator 16 years ago, and we got it back last month. So far, so good, but the rack & pinion focuser is really old style, with the threaded ring at the top. The piece takes only 1 1/4" eyepieces, and the 2" eyepiece ring is nowhere to be found. See the photos.

I don't want to install a different focuser. Does anyone have any leads on where I might be able to get this 2" threaded ring? Or worst case, get a focuser with that ring on it? Thanks.

I would try Telescope-Warehouse. They list a few Meade visual backs, though unknown if it fits that particular focuser. Maybe give them a call.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, they don't have that part. I will give them a call, if other places don't pan out.

Tom:

You might try a want ad in the classifieds.

Post something in the Classics Forum. Someone may be able to help you.

I wonder if the adapter from the old Meade 2 inch Plastic "Upgrade" focuser would fit?

I'm going to suggest the moderators move this to the Classics Forum .

A digital caliper and set of thread gauges is only about $20 total on Amazon and I feel are prerequisites in this hobby if you're attempting any sort of repair/restoration. Knowing the exact threads would be very beneficial for the hunt!
