Saw this prom on the NE limb and ended up with 2 1/2 hours on it in very variable seeing.  This gave the programs a fit trying to align the frames.  I tried everything in ImPPG, PIPP and Photoshop.  In the end, ImPPG came the closest and then I nudged 240 frames to get it a bit smoother.  The disk still rises up in the frame near the end and then slams back down when the animation starts over but at least the prom motion doesn't jump all over the screen!  There was a fascinating eruption at the bottom of the "square arch" prom on the right.  It rips off in only 6 frames.  Figuring the time it took to traverse past the top of that prom which is about 50,000 km high, I estimated it was moving near 750,000km/h.  The last time I saw a bit of plasm move that fast was from an X-Class flare!  I'm including a slowed down version of just those frames to better see the eruption because it happens fast about 1/3 of the way into the animation.  The prom on the full disk is cut off due to the tight FOV.

Thanks Jeff and Marv!  Indeed Jeff, this was one of the most active proms I’ve seen in a while.

I love it when we bring physics in to things! Nice catch! If not an X-Flare, I do wonder what else could propel plasma to such speeds. I need to brush up on my stellar evolution/dynamics!

Thanks Steve, yeah, I’d love an explanation for that burst!
