https://www.ioptron....duct-p/8710.htm

Its 129$ only and does not have the ring system most 50mm+ guidescopes have. The specs say it has the standard vixen dovetail so it can sit on top of my 8" newt without much risk of flexture. Thoughts? Plan to use with QHY5III or similar approx 200$ guide camera.

Any users give any tips on this scope and pros and cons?

I have the ASI 2600mm DUO on my vixen 8" and my HAE29 mount cannot be guided properly with Ha filters as it requires sub 1" exposures. So thinking of getting the guidescope.

Tried everything in PHD2 and there is no alternative to short exposures which are impossible with Ha filter as Duo guide sensor is next to main imaging sensor.

also looking for advice on cheap guide camera to run with this 80mm

It's a fair price but in fact you don't need that much aperture and focal length guiding 8" newton.
60 or even 50mm guide scope will do just fine.
But no flexure is a good thing.

As for guide camera, something like asi220mm is at the lowest end.
There's also numerous clones like Touptek etc.

So I can go with 50mm and a 2um pixel mono camera.. That would work I think...!

guessing the 8 inch newtonian is about 800mm focal length, you probably only need a good 50mm guidescope as Tapio says.

I have an 80mm Refractor as a guidescope for my 1484mm RC-10, and it works real good.

the disadvantages of an 80mm guidescope will be the weight and attaching it firmly. for me the weight was no problem as I have a CEM-120 mount, and its good for 120 pounds, but if I had a smaller mount I don't think the 80mm would be an option at all.

a smaller 50mm guide-scope will weigh much less, and probably be a much better match to the 8 inch Newtonian.

I have a 50mm guidescope on my Takahashi FSQ which is 530mm focal length, and the 50mm works great. they are a good match. the 50mm Guide-scope that I chose is the Skywatcher EvoGuide 50ED, which is a DOUBLET. I think Doublets make great guide-scopes, and would not buy a single lens achromat again.

good luck. smile.gif

yes 760mm to be exact. I am looking at a guide ratio of 1/4 for a 3.76um pixel size and lower 1/2.5 for 2.4um

The guidescope I am considering is an extremely light 50mm william optics guidescope which has a vixen dovetail so can be mounted very sturdily on top of my newt.

My mount is a HAE29C and I would be within the tolerance for my mount no issues
