I'm hearing some say that their Seestar finds its first object of the night perfectly well without having to do the Magnetic calibration.

Is this true?

Are there some of you out there who routinely do not do Magnetic Calibration?  Can you comment?

Thanks

Dave

I can't remember when I last did magnetic calibration. It's only really needed for solar and lunar. Similarly I never bother levelling, horizontal calibration compensates for any small out-of-level situation. Just put the Seestar on the ground, point it north, and go.

Same as tarbat, never do it. It is a smart telescope so it figures out where it is pointing automatically.

I did the compass calibration at the beginning of last November, when I got it. That was the only time.

If the Seestar needs it, it will tell you.

Although it doesn't always need it, I do it every time I'm doing lunar or solar.  DSOs, etc, I just set it down, turn it on and walk away.  No need for any extra steps.
