This aired on CBS news program yesterday.  Its perhaps the most 'positive' story about reducing LP in cities I've seen.  Because LP is now recognized as a real threat to bird populations and the real actions being taken that 'astro-nuts' like us can also benefit from.   (you just have to 'put up with' the commercial at the beginning)

A few animals and insects use starlight or moonlight for navigation.  Artificial light can screw them up.

Unfortunately birds and insects may just be the tip of the iceberg of light pollution and what it may affect. Here's a link to some new research coming from Rush University Medical Center on increased risk of Alzheimer's disease associated with artificial light exposure.

There is absolutely no doubt that continuous light has damaged HUMAN mental health. Glad people seem to at least care about birds.

Its far easier to make the direct connection when they strike windows and a thousand dead birds are piled up at the bottom of a brightly lighted building and the science says huge flocks use light to navigate at night.

There is already another thread on that article, which I also commented on with this link.
