I've heard that the Ethos 6mm was special... having owned the whole line now, it was the ONE that I'd never bothered with.  But... I kept hearing the 6mm was the standout.  So I sold my 4.7 and moved to the 6 as it really is a better fit for the 4" scope, and well...  WOW.  I was not prepared for that view of the Moon.  Not that the 3.7 or 4.7 weren't good, it's just he 6 snaps to view and honestly is SOOOO Sharp.  VOODOO I tell you!  VOODOO.

The 6mm Ethos is truly a marvel!  There is nothing like it in my stable in that focal length.  The quality of the image this Ethos delivers on the Moon is matched by the 6mm Delos; but the Delos does not have the expansive field of view of the Ethos.  The field of view offered by the 6mm Ethos is sharp, contrasty, and glare and scatter free from end-to-end.  An amazing instrument!

That scope is capable of going above 200x, I wouldn't have sold the high power planetary ep's because of a couple nights of bad seeing, ..170x is childs play for a 100mm Tak and fits well with average south east seeing,

The Ethos line is hard to beat for all around great viewing. The 6mm is a killer eyepiece with a Tak.

The 6mm Ethos is as sharp as any "planetary" eyepiece.

I call it my "100° ortho".

It's not really orthoscopic, of course--it can't be at 100°--but it delivers sharp stars to the edge in my 12.5" (coma-corrected f/ratio is 5.75).

I've watched, just for comparison, a perfectly-focused globular cluster core stay in focus as it exited the field of view.

There are a lot of 50° eyepieces that don't do that.

                                AFOV   f/4 center  f/4 mid   f/4 edge   f/10 center   f/10 mid    f/10 edge

Tele Vue Ethos 6    100,7°       <2            3.5           5             Diffr             Diffr           Dif?

Optics books for years regard 5' as a "perfect" star image to the eye.

Diffraction limited means only limited by the scope, no matter the aperture.

It is, essentially, the perfect eyepiece, save in two factors--it's not usable with glasses, and there is a little CA at the very edge.

As an aside, it is matched in performance by the 3.7mm Ethos, but only if seeing allows a 3.7mm eyepiece to be used.

The 6 and 10mm Ethos are the two sharpest for me.  I won't claim they are as good as an equivalent ZAO - but they are to me!  cool.gif

Incredible views!

To my eye, all three are superb in my Dobs.  The 3.7mm Ethos gets the least use of the three as it requires really good seeing, but when the air is really stiil, wow!  I've seen the central star in M57 in all three of them in my 18" at different times over the years.  That's good enough for me.
