What should you ask, or what should you offer?

I think most would baulk at $600 for what is shown in the ad.

$200 max. Maybe $300 if lens is flawless, you really want one and don't have to drive far. Buying it sight unseen; $100. No lens pics is always disappointing.

In my market I've passed on a couple at $150. Bottom line is how bad you want it.

I don’t understand why the 10-TE is usually priced much higher than the Sears 6344. One is RAO the other is SYW. The mounts are almost identical. Performance is similar. Both 80mm x 1200mm. There’s a 6344 on Facebook marketplace in Illinois I believe for $225 looks perfect in box complete. I would rather have that one. It also takes the Vixen 1.25 adapter.

Seems to be complete and in good shape. If glass is good and trash can lid is over it, $250.

The answer may be just what you stated, "one is RAO the other is SYW".  But the 6344 has a 76mm x 1200 lens like the Tasco (76.2mm), and 6339a

My 1254 ATCO 80mm x 1200mm is made by APL.  It doesn't have the RAO stamp either.  But it has a very good lens.

One thing that I like very much about the 1254, and the 6344, is that their tubes are longer than the 10TE's and 6339a's.  I have had a few of those scopes and I didn't like the long skinny drawtubes.  Now I use the 1254 for outreach events.  I have a 10TE-5, that is in excellent shape, I would let it go for 275.

One thing I actually do like about the Sears 4540 is the long skinny draw tube. Focus is so fine. I also like the mount a little better than the 6344. I can move the object in field of view while observing without vibration. The 6344 was very sensitive. I would assume the 10TE is also.

It says 44540 but someone here said I didn’t need the extra 4. Basically a Towa 339. It has outstanding optics. It’s the one I got on SGW for $7.

If you prefer the long skinny draw tube that is ok.  I don't care for it.  Its VB is for .965" eyepieces, and you have to make an adapter to use 1-1/4" eyepieces.

The others, like the ATCO or the SYW, they don't have the long skinny drawtube, and the Vixen style 1-1/4" VB screws right on.

The mount on the 339 looks like the standard mount that would come with 60mm scopes.  But I have heard that it was larger, but I would like to see them side by side, as I don't believe so.

So is this the scope you're talking about.  There are many posts on 339's:

I'm with you on those skinny draw tubes. No good options for a 1.25" VB, can tend to introduce sag, and scopes with a long main OTA tubes just looks better!

IIRC, I had to add a thin felt strip to my Sears (AO) 6336 to use Johann's Unihex.

I just missed out on a rare Tasco 80mm F400 short refractor. I had been looking this quite a while. I bid on it from Good Will for about a week. This thing looked mint, the newton rings shown in the objective were perfect. I was watching as the time came to a close, and with 10 seconds, I bid $10 above the highest bid, but the signal came u and said that I lost.

This setup had all kind of accessories, circle V also. Really hate I missed out on this one, will probably never se another one. I have found a 60mm F300, but I wanted the 80mm.

I guess it wasn't the incomplete one on SGW recently discussed in the ads thread. You might be interested in the comments on them being hit and miss. link below

This one was the complete setup, with original box and case and all eyepieces, barlows, diagonal etc that came with it when new.

He got it for $96.

The initial 4- must have been a Sears departmental thing. The badge on the 6344 says 4-6344 and the 4540 4-4540.

ok, but I can't find a Sears 4540. I've seen a 3-4454, and a 4-4454, but what is a 4540?

A Sears 4454 is a 80x1200 scope, and they are Circle T.

Oh no idea. I don't know any of those numbers other than the 4454.
