Which YouTuber? That would be helpful information ..

Dwarf 3 wins on FoV, S30 and S50 win on speed and lower sensor read noise.

The field of view segment on your chart is subjective to one's personal needs or desires. Therefore, it is neither green nor red and cannot be classified as positive or negative.

How can you say this with a straight face when the 30 has barely raised its head, eh.

Whoops! For some reason I got it stuck in my head that the S30 would be wide field. We don't have much in the way of specs yet. I was telling someone recently that's there's nothing wrong with a small camera, you just need to pair it with a small scope. Something wide enough to capture M31 would be a specialty scope for me unless it offered very high resolution to support zooming in on medium to small targets.

On another note... I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the idea that there is a wrong way to enjoy your hobby.

Weird.

From the metadata, I've assumed 30mm aperture f/5:

GREEN = Seestar S50 = 0.72 x 1.28
YELLOW = Seestar S30 = 1.2 x 2.1
RED = Dwarf 3 = 2.93 x 1.65

Based on AstroNet photo meta deta

Dwarf 3 wins on FoV, S30 and S50 win on speed and lower sensor read noise.

They certainly won’t be doing eq on that tripod,but if it’s anything similar to the d2 tripod most users will leave it in the box anyway, if buyers still want a shorty though this is my top recommendation  https://www.amazon.c...le?ie=UTF8&th=1

Looks like the optical path is not folded like the s50. Pity the field isn’t a bit bigger.

It is uncertain whether he has received the item, as he indicated that it was being shipped directly from China.

There is currently significant weather activity, and he only mentioned that the surprise bore the number 30 in its name. Therefore, assuming it is the S30 model is merely speculative.

The YouTuber employs an EAA format for his channel.

I can hardly wait to see its capabilities.  Regardless I will have one to compare with my SS'ers.

It is kind of sad that ZWO went with an S30 and not and S80/S104 with equatorial capability and a wider field of view.

Anything less than an S50 can easily be done with a mirrorless camera in the same ball park,  yes, it has the software, though within a year, there will be a NINA simplified solution for this.  On the other hand a larger portable scope with a derotator or equatorial mount, with a higher resolution and the capabilities of the S50 would appeal to many serious amateurs.

The limited field of view of the S50 and its lost subs make it frustrating to use at times.  I find it easier to setup an 80mm refractor with NINA or ASAIR and can achieve similar capabilities as the S50.  Though setup takes a bit more time, the overall efficiency is better through out the night, as you don't lose any subs.

Similar experience here. Whilst I'll still use my Seestar S50 when I need an ultra-portable scope, my new setup with a 60mm refractor and ASIAir may take an extra couple of minutes to setup, but it achieves 95% integration efficiency so soon outperforms the 76% maximum I can get with the Seestar.

Many of the current smart telescopes seem to waste a lot of valuable dark sky time dealing with star trails, dithering, etc. due to their lack of guiding and relatively poor tracking geartrain.

I notice you didn't mention the difference in costs, lol. Eh !  PS:  Cost always seem to be a hidden factor when talking to prospective astro beginers, right.

would appeal to many serious amateurs.

But that is not the targeted market.  For example, the Dwarf II was for sale in Sam’s Club.

Exactly my thoughts. For 'serious amateurs' ZWO has a wide range of products on offer.

Hello Gvs,

I agree, even though it would cost more. Unlike the Seestar S50, I find no interest in the S30.

KEEP LOOKING UP Jethro

No one should count their chickens out on the S30 just yet, it might be a cheaper prelude, a test look before the big guys hit the drawing boards. These type of much higher priced whatevers don't just get jumped on with both feet if you want to do it right, eh. Why not let the competition make the mistakes first and then fire off both barrels, ZWO know the game full well, ya think.

Agreed.

I think the S30 qualifies as low hanging fruit. You pick it and get it to market before tackling the harder products. Generating revenue sooner is never a bad thing.

Hello LDW47,

I certainly hope so. All and all, my experience with the Seestsr S50, I would certainly purchase a Seestar pro version with a larger aperture and upgraded sensor that hopefully has an EQ Mode. I'm not feeling the Seestar S30. I would hope that ZWO understands the game.

HAPPY SKIES AND KEEP LOOKING UP Jethro
