I am quite convinced I will see a Kessler Syndrome event in my lifetime.

Seems that way. Some experts even consider it has begun already. https://www.space.co...e-space-debris

I'm hoping for a dark, clear and moonless night myself. The imaging could be spectacular. Cheers.

Not to mention its been a boon to the drug cartels according to a report in today's news. More and more I am getting convinced that Jeff Goldblum's comments in Jurassic Park are coming true.  " Just because we could do something, we never considered whether we should do it."

A Starlink is the size of a pickup truck. Yes, a 500 pound pickup truck that is 6" high. This sounds like Britishleftism at it's finest.

Agreed.  The money laundering Canadian government just GAVE Telesat $2 billion to develop low earth satellites to service Canada, with another $4 billion coming for deployment.  What they really did was create jobs in Quebec at $2,000,000 per job.    Everyone knows that Starlink could do the job at 1% of the cost. Now why wouldn't the Canadian government just buy Starlink?!??!?!?!!?

China is building a network, as are other countries.

Kessler here we come. And then what ... wait 1,000 years for the debris to settle?

Before satellites and 100 launches a month,  no where near the size of pickup truck. meteors the size of a grain of sand to dust particles were the only thing creating noctilucent  clouds at the edge of the atmosphere.   Now they cover entire sectors of the globe,

A single drop of oil, will spread and pollute an area of a 2 car garage.  Small amounts of ground emissions of certain gases were causing huge holes and breakdown of the protective Ozone layer leading to more cancers.

The law of unintended consequences and the science of physics and chemistry  does not take  the side of of any pol. party.

Is that the Gordon tartan?

Loud McCleod, most likely.

Back on topic a bit....George Clooney's character in Gravity had a great quote: "looks like no one will be updating their Facebook for a while", or something like that.

The worst is around the Orion nebulas. I've had 60s subs with up to 7 sat trails in them.
