My C14 edge and G11T

My C14 which was my dream scope. It was the last SCT I bought before I went down the refractor rabbit hole. I use it for star parties and occasional imaging.

The SCT is a serious observation tool. Due to it's practical design (shortness, back heaviness, low weight, smooth internal focusser) it's use is not scaring, disappointing, harmful or hazardous
That way I think it goes

The super Polaris mount in the fourth picture from the top of the original post looks different from the ones to which I am accustomed. I have own probably three or four SP mounts. There's some kind of indentation in the 10:00 position relative to the altitude adjustment lever. I don't remember that on my SPs. Maybe it's a faulty memory.

Had my new C6 OTA out last night in Rocky Mountain National Park. Nice dark skies site. The Double Cluster was simply dazzling, both almost squeezing in the eyepiece. M31, bright and pleasing, the central portion of course. Had it on an AZ/GTi and tracked Saturn for a while...worked well with just the standard tripod (for travel) though normally mount it on a SW AZ5 for better balance in the backyard. My wife and I got hints of bands, and three moons.

I've owned several C5's and several C6s the recent years, most bought open box or used (though the current one is new). I like the 6 better. Noticeably brighter and, to my eye, sharper. I've always had to collimate them some (one a lot!) but only tweaking the secondary. I'm visual only so that works just fine for me. I remember when the book Nightwatch recommended the C6 years ago. The late Terrence Dickenson got it right.

Bob can set us straight, but it looks like it’s not an SP mount.

Wait a minute..  do you really need another ra-ra thread for SCT users to have warm fuzzy feelings ?

Mutual man-hugs, lotsa "Yowza's", and back-slapping all-round ?

Really ? What about all the "big newt" and refractor types ? Leaving them out of the party ?

And those smug maksutov types, we know where their allegiances lie...

You've found it out by yourself

SCT fans need comforting frequently. Like do Mew owners

Same you find in the frac shack. but you have to look there

Now even more comfort needed Meade have left

There are forums for reflectors and refractors - feel free to post as appropriate.

Feel free to start a thread celebrating how much fun Maksutovs are.

BTW: it's a capital "M" on Maksutov.

Lol, it’s the SCT “comfort” thread.  I guess eye candy=comfort?  Hmm, I’m feeling pretty comfortable right now.

Hello, I do have a C5 sct mounted on a iOptron cube with GPS, easy to use and very good image for its size.

A great grab and go. Of couse I also go back to the Meade 10" sct. But small is also great.

"Comfort" thread? Scts are certainly more comfortable than newtonian with long tubes!  ;- )

I wasn't aware that sharing appreciation and images of SCTs in a forum dedicated to telescopes, particularly in a sub-thread for CATs, was out of style. Who would've thought? scratchhead2.gif

Was just now leaving my last man-hug, thought I had a minute to cast some derision on the derisive. But I'm busy collimating my SCT, so have to pass...

I think that an important benefit with SCTs (at some of them) is that they can be configured for a wide range of focal length. In my cast from 400 mm to 5,000 mm.

This is also the matter of large aperture (mine is 200 mm) at a reasonable price.

Wait a minute! Let's see 3 C8s, 1 C11, 1 C5, 1 C90. 1 Newt, 4 Dobs and a couple of Fracs.

Do I qualify for membership in this thread?

The issue is I love all of my scopes when used to the best of their abilities and they do have different abilities. Sorta like kids, each one has their own talents and take-aways.

Though I would have to admit that my SCT's are used the most.

Umm.. Must make me an SCT fan.

Whew! I thought I might be in trouble posting here.

All hobby scopes are fun scopes. Supposed to. Some of them are even funny.
When a scope doesn't provide fun you did something wrong

And newts are these little critters that slither around in the substrate

Are you saying this is all an illusion and the Newts are just part of the Matrix?

I'm a refractor fan too.

But this is my most used set up.

A C8, and a 4 inch refractor at the same time.

Best of both worlds.

It's light, easy to set up, and is very versatile.
