Way back in 1980 or so, I purchased my first telescope, the Edmund Astroscan.  Quite a few years later, I had acquired more equipment and I felt myself sufficiently advanced in my Astronomy hobby, so I donated my pristine Astroscan to my local Astronomical Society for a Door Prize at one of their big outreach events.  Once it was gone, I have always regretted that decision since.

This week, I purchased this Astroscan on eBay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/335531555819

I’ve been looking at them forever it seems, and it appeared that this one had good optics, as well as the (relatively) rare bracket to mount the scope on something.

I’d appreciate any observations or comments you may have.  As well, take a peek at the last picture the Seller shows.  Can you tell me what the item beside the eyepiece is?

Thanks!

It looks like an image erector prism:

Here's a link to Ed Ting's YouTube channel to a video he uploaded just 5 days ago on the AstroScan.

The erector gets inserted in the bottom of the focuser tube, the spring loaded c ring holds it by friction.  You need a 28mm RKE with the scope, the field curvature in that eyepiece seems like it was designed to match the Astroscan.
