I recently purchased a vintage Celeston C8 Plus*. The illuminator for the 8x50 right-angle finderscope is loose. There's a ring with a thumbscrew which holds the illuminator in place. This is supposed to fit snugly in the finder eyepiece, but it is loose and won't stay in. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to fix it in place?
Alternately, I have an unused Meade 8x50 right-angle finderscope that I bought decades ago. It can accommodate an illuminator which would thread into place. Does anyone know what size the threads are, and/or have a recommendation for a compatible illuminator?
*For what it's worth, the scope came with the original manual which is a first edition v1.0 dated July 1985. Accordingly I suspect the scope is of early manufacture. I imagine the serial number is on the corrector plate, but won't remove the plastic cover until I need to collimate it; I suspect the 39-year old plastic prongs on the cover plate will snap if I attempt to remove it!
