Apologies if this is a duplicate post, but I can’t seem to find my original.  I am new to cloudy nights and to astronomy as well and was lucky enough to inherit a Celestron from a neighbor. However, I cannot determine what model I have.  Below is a link to several photographs I took of my scope and I would Appreciate your help in determining which scope I have.

Thanks in advance for your help

Looks like a C5 SCT....kind of hard to tell without a size reference (something we all know the size of like a gallon milk jug).  If it's a C5 (5" mirror) they're usually really decent...ditto if it's a C6 or C8.

Hi and welcome!
I don’t think they made a fastar C5. C8 maybe? A ruler across the corrector to measure the tube diameter would tell us more.
And a better photo of the panel by the on/off switch will help too.

There’s a 1.25” diagonal there for reference. I’m thinking 6” but never saw one in black. My C6 is FASTAR compatible.

The AVX comes with a black one, I think.

hi all.  Sorry for not including more details on my original post, but this is an 8 inch scope, and as requested here is a link to a photo with details of the on off switch.

Look at the front of the tube assembly and it should state what the size is.

Hi:

Rod Mollise's Used SCT Buyers Guide has a lot of information.  "Uncle Rod" has a lot of experience with SCT, has written two books on SCTs and is an all around helpful guy..  If you have an SCT question, shoot him a PM, he's a CN member.

I can’t open your photo, so I can’t help you with ID. But I will say this is a good time to learn how to post photos directly to the forum.

The mount looks like the one in this post. Your scope appears to be the Celestron Celestar 8 Deluxe.

This Craigslist post also looks like what you have and says the same model. Here is another listing on an Italian site that's the same. And here is an eBay sale of the same.

Here is the manual for the Celestar 8 (including the deluxe version that you have). Page 40 shows how to use your specific drive system.

The nice thing about your unit is that it comes with encoders. If you figure out the encoder pins you can make a cable and connect them to a DSC like ArgoNavis or Sky Commander to be able to find targets fast.

Thanks so much folks for all the great info and especially for the owners manual. It seems that now that i know what model it is I have a neighbor that wants to buy it from me. Don’t know if it’s appropriate to ask this in this form but what do you suspect a fair price would be?

One of these was offered to our local club for $600, no takers. But I think $500 - $600 is fair.

A fair price would be what you paid for it.
