I captured the bulk of the GRS transit this morning but as my initial post I've focused attention on the time at which Io emerged from behind Jupiter's disk.  The GRS is already well past the meridian but the seeing held up and this animation came our fairly nice.  I have used the derind tool in the developmental version of Wavesharp to accomplish two separate tasks.  Firstly, the designed take of preventing the rind from forming by suppressing the application of sharpening in that location.  Secondly, by adjusting the spread and feather of the mask I was also able to prevent Io from blowing out as it emerged from behind the disk.  I kind of stumbled onto this second use for the tool and I'd be interested in hearing your comments regarding the effectiveness.

I'll get the full animation done and posted here as well along with a few well-timed derotations as soon as I can.

Here are the entire 77 frames of the capture series from this morning.  You'll notice a big jump early on, that's from taking the time to double check my collimation using Metagude on a nearby (about 1 degree separation) star.  By the time I got back to capturing Jupiter several minutes had elapsed which show up well in a set of 60s captures with only 5s gap in between them.  Seeing was listed as average but there were lots of twinkling stars over head so I doubt we were that good, at least early on.  With Jupiter already above 65 degrees when I got started it's hard to blame much on the atmosphere.  More likely the time it takes to get my eyes functioning properly after sleeping for a few hours between Saturn and Jupiter.  I show the bad with the good because in my opinion it's really important to show the new imagers just hoe variable this hobby can be sometimes.  As Ray pointed out there are some good frames in there and my job is to no go in and find them (without making the final result either clown-like OR orange.  Take a second to notice the strong influence that the 1953 version of "War of the Worlds" has recently had upon the GRS interior.  I left the derind tool ON but chose a frame near the time when Jupiter crossed my meridian as the reference frame to set the rake.  There is another time gap when I took a few minutes to go into the house for something to eat as the four diet cokes were churning in my gut (a substantial one it is too).

There are a couple of really good frames in there, Don. Looking forward to what you get from the derotations.

Here is a 7-image derotation that was processed after derotation in Wavesharp instead of AstraImage.

Another 7-image derotation just before Io emerged.

One last 7-image derotation just after the GRS crossed the meridian.  Note:  The underlying images in the derotation did not have derind applied to them prior to derotation.
