Hello,

I have the opportunity to get a good deal on a William Optics Megrez 80/480 with Lomo optics.
The telescope is still in the original WO tube and also comes with the original focuser.

I plan to use the telescope for astrophotography, and it would replace my FRA300 from Askar.

There are several reports online, and users seem to be very impressed with the Lomo optics.
However, most of these reviews are quite old, and the images were taken with older cameras.
I'm really interested in how this telescope performs nowadays, especially with modern cameras and equipment.
I would love to hear your experiences!

Since I want to use the telescope for photography, I’m also considering a reducer.
I'm thinking about the Riccardi 0.8x or the Starizona Apex 0.65x.
Will these reducers work with this telescope?
The tube is quite short, so there isn't much backfocus, which makes me wonder if the reducers will work.

The TeleVue TRF-2008 is often used with this telescope.
However, I’ve read several times that newer reducers, like the Riccardi or Apex, are significantly better, so I would prefer to use one of those.
Perhaps the problem could be solved by swapping the focuser, but I’m not sure about that.

Has anyone had any experience with this setup?

I would really appreciate any advice or insights!

Greetings
Brian

The Riccardi reducer appeared to cover a MFT sensor which is what I used at the time. I don’t know if it covers a larger area.
I’m curious about this as well.

Hi,

I got feedback from a local dealer.

The Megrez needs a new tube and focuser.
For example the TS 80/480 FPL53 would fit.

Also, as Ram said, MFT is the max. size wich fits perfekt.
APSC or even fullfram will not work perfectly.
Thats why I dont bought the scope.

Now im locking at the new FTC65 with teh fullframe reducer or the FSQ85.

Greetings
Brian

Ive got a Stellarvue LOMO 80 and it is great. I have done some Astrophotography with it. But it has a Feathertouch focuser on it that I think is 2.5 inches maybe 3. It is basically as big as the tube. But IMO the LOMO 80 is one of the finest 80mm scopes you can get.
