I’m looking for opinions regarding using the asi533mc pro with a C8 with 6.3 reducer on a sw eq6-r-pro mount. With this setup I’ll be trying to image small to medium DSO’s. I have a separate setup for wide field imaging.

I use my 533 happily on my 8" ACF. I guide with a 174 camera and a 12mm prism OAG. One thing to consider is that with the reducer, the imaging circle will be proportionally smaller (down from 38mm to around 24mm. That doesn't leave much space for a big OAG in the FoV.

I've run the 533 with an Edge-8 and the COAG and it's fine. The 1" sensor is so small that the OAG prism is not in the FOV like it is with my ASP-C cameras. Personally, I think I get better images with my 071 and the larger pixels but I have no issues with the 533 on my C8.

I had the same setup on my rig a few weeks ago to test an old C8 I have. ASIAIR, EQ6r, 533mc, .63 reducer, I used a 50mm guidescope and asi120 mini for guiding. Only issue I had was occasionally I had a failed plate solve. When this happened I rest the FL to 0 and then plate solve worked. Happened a couple times tryin to polar align. Never failed when going to targets and imaged fine all night. I was pretty happy with results. Unfortunately the scope has some issues with collimation due to a loose secondary housing that I have to address so I tore the rig down but will use it again once I work on the scope. Below is the bubble nebula shot with this setup.

I personally think its a great combination. You can check my Astrobin link below, I captured M1, M104, M51, M27 and M13 with the exact same equipment.  The only potential drawback is that with a longer focal length setup (over 1000mm) you can run into poor seeing affecting your images and guiding.
