Here is the info

James River Star Party (Nov. 1-2) registration is now open!  James River State park has some of the darkest skies in central Virginia and is hosting astronomers on November 1 and 2 (Friday and Saturday nights).  There is no charge to participate in this star party as an astronomer - please pre-register by sending an e-mail to Richmond Astronomical Society with your contact information and what type of vehicle you plan to bring.  Astronomers are welcome to camp with their observing equipment and there will be a food truck there on Saturday.  Members of the public are invited to attend the star party during the early evening hours on both nights of the event, speak with the participating astronomers, and have a look through their telescopes or learn about astrophotography.  Here is a link to the official event webpage

Here is the informal

The early evening will be full of visitors for public viewing. Volunteer scopes are designated with glow sticks.
After 9pm or so most of the public will have left.

The Milky Way will be amazing as it passes overhead all night.

Every year it’s been cold and dew /frost .

Saturn will be well placed after dark. Jupiter rises around 9pm.

Cellphone reception isn’t the best.

The scope to its left is a 1965 Edmund 4” f/15 refractor. Both scopes gave amazing views and I’m jealous.

Love seeing a Portabll!
