Hi all,

as author of Atmos lens design software and AtmosFringe interferogram analysis software ,after many years, I have decided to give a gift to the optical community and offer my softwares  free.

In these last 30 years, with all the effort I have put into Optics ( software , Riccardi-Honders configuration,  optical designer ,optics manufacturing ,etc..)

I have also had many satisfactions and think it is right to give something back.

Lens design software have become very expensive, so now anyone interested can download and use my programs  for free.

Both programs  are  full working versions  and Atmos is an upgraded version  (never available before and with implemented features).

They can be downloaded in the Atmos website and very soon from Roland Christen website (Astro-Physics telescopes).

I hope this will be appreciated and you will enjoy my gift.

Wow, this is great, I have been using 7.2 for years and have been debating upgrading.  I have always likes ATMOS over Oslo, way easier to use.

Thank you, this is a nice gift to the optical community.

I understand your reason. Like some folks here on CN.

I taught telescope making and judged for over 35 years.

Took what I learned professionally and applied to those

who needed or wanted it.

I look forward to downloading it. What are the computer

requirements?  XP and higher or win11 or Mac?

Links?

Thanks for the gift. I have dabbled with OSLO and others over the years and generally stumbled with the optimization routines. I look forward to giving a run at designs with ATMOS.

Atmosfringe is old however I just tried  downloading and installing it again .The auto-installation works without any problem.

It is very strange it asks for a disk.  Download and try again, unzip it (you get 3 files ) and then double click on Setup.exe. In case (if you can) try on a different pc.

Nope!  Tried turning the anti virus off, still askes for disk#3 and crashes.  Tried running it under Edge, same thing.

I've used both programs (sold by Astro Physics). I am curious what sort of upgrades were made in ATMOS. Personally I wish my version had allowed a knife-edge test simulation, as it did for the Ronchi test of designed systems.

I once even wrote to you asking if you were planning on upgrading for versions, but you replied you didn't have the time for that.

On the other hand, OSLO.edu doesn't have a Ronchi test (because it's not used very much in professional optics), so I had to rely on the comprehensive SYNOPSYS program for those functions. It's freebie Version 14. with unlimited number of surfaces, and all functions, also didn't have the Ronchi test, but, Its author, Dr. Dilworth, was kind enough to add the Ronchi test when I asked for it. Amazingly, he did it the next day! :o)

I notice a hint of controversy in your post. I confirm that I didn't have and still don't have the time to add the knife-edge feature. So I'm glad you found another way to meet your needs. As for the upgrades, I suggest you download Atmos (remember it's free), and that way you can make comparisons. You'll see a more complete optimization, the addition of coating, transmission, polychromatic MTF, more powerful ghost analysis, etc. I also confirm that this upgraded version has never been for sale because it was previously intended for more restricted uses only.

Could someone else download the program and see if they experience the same issues? Thank you

Thank you, Massimo!  I appreciate your gift.

Regarding installation of AtmosFringe, after downloading the zipped file, I double-clicked on it which extracted the files.  When I double-clicked the setup file I got the request for Disk 3.  I tried extracting the files again, this time using the "Extract All" icon in the menu at the top of my directory page.  Then I double-clicked the setup file, and I successfully installed AtmosFringe.

Windows 10 and Firefox on a laptop.

I tried installing on windows 10, it asks for a network temp file which I don't have.

I hit cancel but it kept going through the installation process, it finished installing the program but when I start the program it runs me through about 10 prompts looking for that temporary file which doesn't exist.

It did start but I can confirm at least on my system it keeps asking for this every time I start the program.

I would love to start using it but it probably needs a newer installer? Then again, what do I know? Never saw this and everything is updated on my windows 10.

Tried to install on my laptop running windows 10 and get the same results.

Thanks for this very kind offer Massimo, hopefully most people can use this nice program you so generously made available to the community.

Pete

I had no issues installing in Wine here. Setup never asked me for a disk or complained about missing files.

I successfully installed Atmos on a Windows 10 system. Haven't tried Atmosfringe. Are there any tutorials, or should I just have fun trying different things to learn it?

I'm sorry, but there isn't a comprehensive tutorial. There is only help available in each window. The reasons why a full tutorial hasn't been created are essentially two.

The first is that writing a complete and well-made tutorial (hundreds of pages) would take a long time (almost as long as writing the software itself).

Additionally, it's important to consider that English is not my native language (I live in Italy), which unfortunately adds further difficulties and extra work, making the process even longer.

However  my  program has always been considered to have an easy and friendly interface, which simplifies its use..

I had no issues installing fringe from the extracted zip file.  Win11 on an older dell laptop.
