Hi all/anyone

I have come across and bought an absolute beauty: An Unitron 132-E refractor, complete with original boxes, tripod,. 60mm guide+40mm finder etc.

OK; Not entirely complete though;

It has the original 6-position eyepiece revolver with eyepieces and a 12" drawtube, an original spectrograph and some hardly as original 1,25" diagonals etc  PLUS an extra drawtube nozzle with an OD of ~58mm. Inner diameter 56mm.

Since the eyepiece-revolver is a prism, I really want to attach a modern 2" mirror diagonal or camera instead-¨.

But adapters ... (I thougth Takahashi adapters were hell on Earth, but ..)

I am guessing they are old-style inch measurements, but can't find any details on them.

Are anyone familiar with Unitrons adapter- and thread measurements?

BR Henrik

I think the Inch standard was instituted 1905, Unitron started in 1951.

@Couder: So yes, it's inch-threads?

I found the adapters needed on astronomy shoppe - Thanks Cavs56! waytogo.gif

For my restoreraition project:

I am in the process of repainting the mount, replacing rusty screws and oiling the mahogony tripod.

The tube's original varnish are OK, except for 3-4 long scratches along the 1114mm tube.

(They are however not that noticable, when alll the tube-rings are in place)

Any takes or opponions on how to deal with the tubes?

  1. Would it be shame to refinish it
  2. Maybe just cover the scrathes up a bit
  3. Or should I keep the original paint entirely

BR Henrik

I usually prefer touch ups over a complete repaint.

When I was collecting Unitrons I found that the thread specs varied through time and somewhat across model lines. What worked on a late 1960s italic-lettered Unihex didn’t quite work on a mid 1950s block-lettered model. I posted a thread (no pun intended) in this forum about modern adapters and steprings that worked on certain Unihexes. This was maybe five years ago?
