A school group visited the Astronomical Society of Harrisburg's Naylor Observatory on Thursday night, October 24th. I set up the club's Seestar S50 and showed the kids and adults images of Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) and NGC 457 while it was still twilight. A fellow ASH member imaged M31 with his Seestar S50 and displayed it to the group.
I then manned the 17" classical Cassegrain housed in the French Dome and showed the visitors Saturn at 180x with a 35mm Bresser 70-degree eyepiece. I also took a few hand-held afocal iPhone shots of the ringed planet.
Another ASH member put the comet into view with one of the 14" Meade LX200 SCTs housed in the King Building. After taking a look and a few hand-held afocal iPhone photos of the comet, I had a quick look at Albireo through the 12.5" Cave Astrola Newtonian housed in the Culver Building.
Later on, when everyone else had left except one other ASH member, I observed M34, M13, M2, M15, and Jupiter.
In addition to the comet and NGC 457, I imaged IC 1396/1396A, IC 63 (the Ghost of Cassiopeia), NGC 7640, and NGC 752 with the Seestar S50.
