Accidentally clicked “bid”.  Back arrow undid it.  Whew.

I did the same thing!

And SOLD to Sergei Komarov at $68,300.

Now... will this sit in glass case to be admired but never touched, or put to good use in a private observatory ?

Yeouch... I appreciate my "bargain basement" 10" AP MCT all the more now!

PS: Comfortably schlepped out back and plonked onto a very portable Mach1 mount, makes the "small" MCT even more desirable. My back and wallet are both quite happy.

Yup... I had the chance to buy an 11" but decided it was just one size too big/heavy for a portable rig.

The AP 12" is only suitable as an observatory setup.

I have my similarly sized TEC on a pier on WheelyBars and it works reasonably well. Permanent would be much better of course.

Wow, that was exciting. I hope that it ends up catching starlight and that the new owner enjoys every photon.

I thought there was a chance I might do the same thing which is why I didn't watch the bidding live.

Insane as i need to spend that much on my house + 40k more to get it back in shape. Only one scope i would pay near that on and that is a mint 6" Unitron and none are out there.

Congratulations to the winning bidder. It's one of a kind.

No offense, but it's a 12 inch Mak-cass with Intes optics.  The only unique thing is that Roland Christen used it.

Hey, I wonder if I could get Roland to use my Mewlon 180c.  Then I could sell it for $40,000.

You would pay $68,300 for a "mint" Unitron?

The moment you open that wooden box it ceases to be "mint", Chas, wiping 25% off, and every peep through it will devalue it  another 10%.

I'll take my MN65 over a Unitron any day. Rare, yes, but there are a few "out there".

6" U would be to look at in parts. Way too big for my house and back at 880lbs.  Most of what is left of 6" U's is worn and torn with yellowed whites and black paint that is chalked up.

One of a kind like Paul Newman's Rolex Daytona was one of a kind. There are many like it, but this one was his.

Let's see for the price it just sold for... buy this scope or instead for the same amount of coin a little place in the boonies with dark transparent skies?....I know what choice I already made wink.gif

Sandy this really is a unicorn. The number of 12" optical sets by Intes-Micro you could count on 1 hand; in 20 years I've only ever spied 1 other. Having a CF OTA built by AP sets it apart from the rest, it is unique; the Intes-Micro OTA's are OK but not as good as what AP does. As for the optics, Intes-Micro would have been well aware who the customer was and would have gone out of their way to make this set as close to perfection as possible; they did that sort of thing for important customers. And I much prefer f/12 over f/14-20 as the AP 10" ones were.

@Refractor6 - if you think this is high try pricing a 10" APO from LZOS - not much change out of a quarter of a million.

I just hope the new owner has the seeing and weather to make good use of what this scope can do. At least Jupiter and Saturn are heading north for the next few years.

Value ? all I can say is there were several out there who thought it was.

Well, a nice price... especially when you consider that a cheap Porsche is slightly more expensive... or a boat, or a painting or a horse...

Nice boytoy indeed. Hope it will use a lot.

If you go big into astrophotography at a remote location, you can get into the $100K cost range quickly.  Cheap Porsches in the US are now around $140K at my local dealer.  Then there is the $100K carbon bass fishing boat to catch catfish.

Hope they insure it ! Would be a shame if it was shipped and arrived with a ding, let alone a broken corrector, courtesy of Universal Parcel Smashers...

What is this shipping that you speak of?  For that amount of money, I would drive any distance and pick it up in person (assuming that the buyer is in North America).

As I read this, I have to wonder if this is the same scope that Astro-Physics brought to AIC a bunch of years ago to show off an AP1600 (or maybe AP1100; I don't remember).
