I inherited my mother-in-law's paintings and I think every one of them has some technical flaws, but I still hang them and cherish them.

wow, nice price. however, the scope has seen better days. With over 1000 hits I am sure someone has scored a deal.
Thing about AP buyers is they don't want beat up scopes. But for $1200 it's pretty amazing.

sold. The deal of the century
130EDT for $2500 would have been another deal of that type. But a guy in British Columbia sold very early 5 inch a 4 inch APs for about $150 each.

Unitron 140, 75mm aperture, 1200 mm f.l. with several ep's and alt az mount. $700 in Northern VA.
This scope has been listed for quite some time at $800, but now has been reduced. I have no idea if this is a fair price. The condition looks quite good, and there are many pics in the ad.
If i were buying scopes i would jump if local. Lens looks good and not fogged up. That is a very old one pre red on the lens cell days. Looks like a 1959 Nothing can come close being made today to a pre 1960 Unitron unless you pay the price of a house for it. I would jump day and nite for it without batting a eye.

700 is about the average price for a unitron 140. Been that price for years. The 142 has been all over the charts for cost. Anywhere from $800 to $1500. It's the 142 mount, tripod and tripod shelf that drive the price up on the 142. All are much more substantial than the 140 unitron

If i were still wanting a 3" 142 U pre 1965 what was complete and mint i would go 2k. And i don't mean a scope put together from many other scopes.

If someone is goofy enough to pay 800 smackers for that disaster I want to talk to them about a certain bridge and tower!
It sold! Apparently, Mr. Barnum was quite correct!

If it is done right, how would anyone know the difference?

4" Mogey Alt-Az in great shape! Auction in Seaford, NY

(I know, I know, no photos, but we could all use some Brass eye candy. And yes, it's mounted backwards.)

I would. I want to find another U like i got in 1986 for $300. Mint 152 that sat in the boxes for about 28 years.

Is it just me noticing this, but does everyone who puts kit together wrong think it’s worth a magnitude more than it really is?

Considering that every Unitron and any other scope is made up from many different pieces how would you know that. Even the Unitrons that were not assembled by Nihon Seiko came from many parts from many different vendors. I doubt if any scope today is made by the vendor, but from many different vendors.

I doubt seriously you would know the difference between a scope put together by unitron and a scope put together by someone as long as all the parts were period correct. I doubt anyone could.

Seems like a trend, but I don't think it applies to this scope. Estimate of $1500-$2000 is spot on.

I helped refurbish one of these. It uses slides and a projector to create the images. Buyer needs to make sure all the slides are there and intact.

I was talking about someone selling a U with parts from other U's.

Could have been worse. Could have been an abstract.

I'm Just glad some scopes (even Clarks) aren't certain cameras. Unless you already own them, few can afford them. The price of a lot of old scientific and related equipment is actually quite low compared, affordable for many. They may not be investments, but they are collectable and nice to look at.

Thanks for that info. The device had my interest.

A very interesting item that even my old man has never seen. WOW! That would be a gas at a museum or planetarium. IF we had the means to purchase it we would definitely be grabbing a pickup and head off to get it. Unfortunately, the economy from the past few years has not been kind to us. Oh well. Hopefully, someone here can save it.
The ad did state that none of the slides or projection items were found or included.
As for that 1886 map, that is also a slick find. Not many of those survived and from what I can tell, the barn board lumber used to frame it was from that time period. I know, photos don't tell everything but, my mom was pretty good with antiques and such so she helped me to learn a little bit about such things.
I hope some of the gang here can rescue both of those items. They are certainly less common than a Tasco or Sears telescope. LOL
FWIW

I thought the map was very cool.
If the funds were available I would probably purchase it and have it digitally cleaned up some then print many.
I would make sure that it didn't break any copyright laws, I don't think so at that age. Is it t not public domain?
If you do it I want one from first run.
