Bausch & Lomb Criterion 4000 on SGW. I have searched and searched but I have never found anyone saying anything nice about these scopes. And, yet, when they do pop up, they sell. Can someone explain that to me?

People use them for the mount.  There’s an article about mounting an etx on the mount.  The etx has great optics and a poor mount.  The b and l has a great mount but poor optics.  Here’s an article that mentions this,   https://astromart.co...unk-bond-status

Here’s a thread on how to do it.    https://www.cloudyni...-bl-4000-mount/

I’m tempted.  I’m just too busy for a project right now.

Does anyone know if there are new shipping restrictions on telescopes/parts from Japan to outside the country?

I have a couple of Vixen parts I was looking at from Buyee and as of the last week or so they are marking anything I put in a save list as 'you cannot bid on this auction at the present time' and includes anything - any optics/telescopes, old vixen parts, etc.

I contacted them and the answer was this:

'We really understand your situation regarding this matter, but we really apologize that we are not able to ship telescopes and telescope parts internationally, and we understand that this is frustrating, but this restriction is not on our side, and this is due to the aviation law of Japan.'

I've sporadically bought telescopes/parts through them for years without an issue and now this? I have a note in with ZenMarket to see if they're having any issues and will report when I find out.

We have been talking about it the last few days. Up to $1700 now.

No more bargains now.  Slithering dealers (surplus dealers) number in the thousands on Ebay now, if they can get it for 10% under the normal selling price, they'll take it.

Here's something interesting, Copernican Planetarium Model 500:

I think $1000 (actually $999) is a bit optimistic.

Another thing I found (I know it's not a telescope, but I think its worth mentioning):

Another overly optimitic seller I think at $395 for an old map.

"aviation law"?  I call BS on that.

This Celestron 80mm f/5 will have the same problem as the SS80 I had.  It's internally-stopped down to around 58mm and it can't be fixed by cutting the focuser tube because the body of the focuser at that point isn't much larger.

Plenty of deals out there for the adventurous explorer. Got 2 good deals myself yesterday.

I mounted a later Bushnell 4 inch Mak on one, it worked well.
