That Vixen is so tempting...only if I wasn't in purging mode.

I wasn't planning to ingest a Vixen 80m but various things happen :) It's like a thin mint!

guy who found the OTA is on reddit and was asking about it as a "beginner's first scope."

He hadn't yet found the mount.  (I've not yet found the legs, or assumed hex)

There's a lovely Celeston 8" sct.  like the Unitrons almost untouched.
Trying to suggest to them that the 8" SCT (complete with wedge) is the one to focus on.

This school (?) district must have bought these 50+ years ago and never used them or something.

I've heard stories of classic scopes buried in school basements.

I'm gonna pull some strings to see if I can fetch that mount. Mine's currently sitting on a Polaris.

I bought a few things from this seller. Highly recommended. He usually describes things accurately, but there is clearly rust on the counterweight shaft.

High indeed. I know where one completely rebuilt AND the 6" Starfinder completely rebuilt, with a tangent arm, could BOTH be bought for that price (both scopes) central front range Rocky Mount.  pm for details. The Rocky Mountain package might include a Meade 390 refractor too, not sure.

I've heard stories of classic scopes buried in school basements.

I'm gonna pull some strings to see if I can fetch that mount. Mine's currently sitting on a Polaris.

I picked up an Edmund SSC with a Tasco 7TE that was buried in a Junior High storage room since the 70's after the kids took things apart and didn't figure out how to get some intricacies back together. It was saved by a demolition crew member in early 2000's  as they were dumping remaining items into commercial roll off dumpsters just ahead of the bulldozers. The school was razed between 15 and 20 years ago. Both scopes then were buried in the crew members garage for another 10+ years before he moved in retirement and cleared out....stuff.  I've gone through it all, nice scopes, and I'm giving it back to a Middle School as they are now called.  Very nice and cute box/stand the Jr. H. kids decorated. Quite the find. So far I've had one school disinterested rejection for donation. A bit of a damper on my efforts. Probably best for a middle school but possibly a High School as well...or what a H.S. is called now.

The box is correctly labeled with some astronomy items and symbols. On one side the kids put "DEATH RAYin bold green duct tape. I had this on the side of the house where it could be seen from the street. I'm slightly known for wacky science stuff around here and the Death Ray on the box caused some concern behind the scenes. I was finally contacted by a prominent resident that was a previous President of our volunteer HOA ($9 per month). I laughed my butt off before I could explain.

Because every evil genius who has ever built one has labeled it "DEATH RAY" in giant letters that can be seen for miles. Just like in all the James Bond movies....

Back on topic, an AP Starfiire on AM for $3550, in Easton MA.

https://astromart.co...and-accessories

There was only one small run of these. If I didn't already have two very nice 4" refractors, I'd think about it.

There is a Tak CN 212 for sale on AM.  The combo Newt and Cass.  I selfishly am not giving a link because I may buy it. Stay away!  lol.gif

Some Unitron 3" f/16 - (130, 140, 142, 145?) - for auction in Cedar Falls, Iowa:

https://backes.aucti...ab=lot_location

don't see mount, legs, or glass, but EPs look untouched

Just ran through the terms. NO shipping frown.gif

But, only 8 hours away... hmm.gif  I sure could use that mount.

Not being well versed on Unitron this looks like the auction company broke up a photo EQ model. Is that possible?

Q

Yes, it appears to be a Model 145C Photo Equatorial. 60mm Guide scope, clock drive, etc. There is one box with parts in it that is actually for the original camera. What a shame the auction company couldn't at least keep it all in one auction so it could maybe all stay together. But they are probably just not knowledgeable enough to know it is all part of the same scope.

Isn't that almost always the case? People are too lazy to even ask for help on such things. Maybe it's a pride thing, though. Oh well. Hopefully, someone with a larger bank book will grab it all.

At $15,000 this morning with 1 week and 5 days to go.  It ends on 11/14.

The 75mm Pentax and mount are still available for $1128, with free shipping.  I'd get it if I didn't already have a 76mm Tak:

https://astromart.co...ount-set-602643

$17,500 this morning with the reserve not met.

Rare, Classic, & Collectable...   Ad Astra III MCT OTA w/ Hard Case:   https://www.cloudyni...tov-cassegrain/

$200 includes CONUS shipping.

Mizar 90mm ID Hinged Tube Rings:   https://zenmarket.jp...ode=v1159521441

$48 + shipping.  Tak-level quality & mass at a Towa price...

Stout Pair!   ASTRO 53mm Guidescope Brackets:   https://zenmarket.jp...ode=e1159121720

Currently @ $7... From an LN-6E, with 3 mounting screws on each base (for the original 50mm long finder).

Won't Somebody Buy & Treasure this Rarity??   Eikow 114x1200 Collapsible Newt EQ Kit IOC:   https://zenmarket.jp...ode=h1155914061

Down to $82 + shipping.  Mirror looks VG; so a neat display + usable Classic, too.  I never saw one of these back when this one was brand new.

[BIF - regarding GW Auctions:  I've pretty much stopped seriously shopping there for Old Scopes, since the secret is out.  But, I have had some success with vintage audio gear; most recently, a c. 1994 SONY micro-rack system that I use on the back porch.  So... there's hope!]

About the $750 8" Meade StarFinder Kit:  If it was local, I'd carry $500 CASH.  A fair price, and far from insulting, IMO.  [But I sympathize:  I wouldn't part with mine for $1000 cash.]

This entry Link, was posted in last month's run.

This Link is the actual ad still up. I don't know when/if Joel will pull the ad.

I now have this. It is safely loaded in truck by family and on it's way West to the heart of the Hill Country.

This Link, ha - first off that link is a very rare appraisal, and is where I would continue the saga but that string is archived. I now have a functional OTA to finish plus every missing accessory an original order could include. All it needs is some OTA refurb with a teeny dink in one end of the tube. Seller was concerned and sent me a picture of the ding (first pic).  I sent back a picture of my OTA and all was relieved (last pics).
