I've had to take down my CEM70 because of a persistent problem that began about two weeks ago.

While using an ASIAir to execute a plan (or autorun or anything like that), the guiding will start showing a sine wave of about +/-4" in RA. It looks a bit like a typical periodic error. The logs show that the ASIAir is madly sending correction signals to the mount as it should be doing and the mount shows connected and all good, but the correction signals do nothing to move the mount. There will be a long sine wave until I stop everything and work on the mount.

But here's the really strange part. The mount will not really return to working even after a full power off and restart (power button and/or unplug). It has worked a few times but in general, it won't return to working until some minutes/hour later when it decides to start working again. Then, between 10 minutes and an hour later, it all starts again.

And one more curious detail. I have powered the mount with a reliable power supply directly and with the ASIAir. I've tried a few different cables. Same behavior any way I try it. But when I power the mount with the ASIAir, I can see that the voltage is 0.7 volts, not the 12 it shows when the mount is working. This seems like a clue to something.

Any thoughts? My only thought is a short inside the mount somewhere...?

Thank you for any thoughts!

Contact iOptron service directly. They are great people and will usually respond within a day or two maximum. Or you can call them.

I had some random problems with my CEM70 and it turned out to be one of the internal cables. They sent me a new one along with instructions on replacement and all is now well. Could also be one of the boards. They can help you troubleshoot.

Thanks KTAZ. I did reach out to them and they responded quickly. They didn't give much information but I'll take it apart this weekend and see whether I can identify anything. Worst case, I ship it for service but no one wants that.
