Finally got a chance for some solar imaging this morning, even though seeing was well below average. With the winter coming, the sun from my balcony presents only two short times for capture: just after rising and around mid-morning. For a short while in between, the sun hides behind a large evergreen tree mad.gif .

The first 'session' was with the PST, while the sun was only around 10o high:

A nice, large filaprom around the 7:00 position on the Eastern limb was the highlight of the Ha disk.

Then after the sun emerged from the tree I got some videos with the AT80EDL/Baader film combination:

The 'full disk' was imaged with just the lens from a 2X Barlow on the DSLR, while the zoomed-in shots were taken with the double 2X Barlow assembly. Poor seeing contributed to a softening of the spots.

I usually shoot in the backyard, although as the Sun proceeds south every day and gets lower in the sky, I have had to wait until after 10 AM for the Sun to clear the trees to shoot. This morning, it was so nice out early, that I found myself shooting from across the street at 8:30 AM.

Nice images, Gary!

Thanks Peter!

Gary, in the 1st photo you have, i like how you do a collage of images that shows the quality graphy, histogram, etc.
How did you do that?  Reason why i'm asking is because i want to do something similar for the school i work at. Every year, a teacher asks me to do a presentation on astrophotography.

In all of my posts I use Powerpoint to compose the images. Each image is a slide I make to record all my work.

Nice captures Gary!  I am realizing that winter will present a large obstruction of trees to my south as the sun gets lower.  Right around noon is a no go.

Thanks Jeff. Yeah, some adjustment will have to be made as well. Hence the Bedroom Series wink.gif

Great set Gary!

Thanks Warren!
