This is a close up image of the emission nebula Sh2-297 (also known as LBN 1039, Ced 90).   Sh2-297 is located at the southern wingtip of the well known Seagull Nebula. Its distance is about 4,000 light years. The reflection nebula vdB 94 is often associated with Sh2-297.  vdB 94 is illuminated by the star HD 53623. The broad vertical emission structure (lower left to upper right) is  part of the larger LBN 1037.

Also in this image, there is dust and interstellar matter (as evidenced by reflection nebulae). This dust comprises some of the structure of the dark nebula LDN 1675A next to Sh2-297 and dark nebula Dobashi 5079 in the upper right. The emission and dust structures are better seen in the mouse-over starless image. There is also a small object designated as a 'likely planetary nebula' - PN G225.5-02.5 just below sh2-297 and stands out in blue surrounded by the red ionized Hydrogen.

The thumbnail image below links to my website page with starless mouse-over image and additional information and links. There are also links below to the full resolution and annotated images. The Horizontal Full FOV is approximately 0.603 degrees. Full size image scale is approximately 0.289"/pix.

Thanks! Glad you liked the starless mouse-over.

Thanks David! Yeah, this field gets imaged quite a bit in the full Seagull Nebula images. Not many close ups of this region though. I wanted to give it some attention.

Jim, wonderful image, and great handling of the transition between reflection and emission regions in this target.  Not always easy to do.

Thanks Steve! I have been practicing somewhat  on  emission / reflection combination with NB and BB. I have been focusing on the direct reflection (like vdB 14) as well as the dust reflection (from integrated flux) and dark nebulae. This image got me some practice with all of the above..
