Hi all,

I'm trying to get my hands on this book, I've read many references (from many years ago) to this book in CN.
I have some crude binocular repair experience and would like to practice and continue learning more.
Unfortunately it seems to be out of print and all copies have ridiculous asking price ($200+ for a paperback)

Any tips where I could get a physical or digital copy at a reasonable price?

Clear skies

Google it. ABE books has a used copy for $225, and a new copy for $500.

Amazon has one for $2,500 or around there.

Several other copies show up but they are sold.

It's always a sad situation when an inexpensive paperback book becomes a rarity.  I thought my copy that cost me $19.95 nearly 30 years ago was a bit on the pricy side but I'm glad I have a copy now.   tongue2.gif

It's a useful book and it's a shame it's no longer published.

As an alternative, you might try getting an E-book copy of:

Repairing and Adjusting Binoculars: Binocular Repair

Alii Service Notes ยท Monty Witt
Jan 1996

It's available though Google Play for a $20. download fee.  You can take a short look of a few sample pages.

Thanks but I wouldn't pay more than $50 for a paperback.
$250 feels like getting robbed. Knowledge is power and maybe someone will get enough value to justify paying so much. I'm not that person.

Thanks Rich, I have a copy of that alternative and was not satisfied. I know for a fact Seyfried's book has a better and more thorough section on colimation which is what I'm most interested in learning and practicing.

Roberto, have you looked into Bill Cook's Understanding & Attaining 3-Axis Binocular Collimation book? It gets into the collimation end with more detail.

I hadn't heard of it, thanks for the tip Rich.  $20 is more like it for a paperback.

Do you own it or have you read it?

Yes, I have a copy.  It's worth having as it explains how true collimation is performed in a shop.  Bill Cook was a US Navy Opticalman who mentored Cory Suddarth of the well known and popular Suddarth Optical Repair.  Bill was contributor on CN here for quite some time.

Is that the same Seyfried that owned University Optics??  Sounds like a good book

Yeah, it was a University Optics Inc. publication.  Mine is dated 1995.

He also did not seem to hold Seyfried's book in high regard:

Thanks to all for your feedback, I decided to purchase Bill Cook's book instead.
If it's of interest I'll report my experience reading it once I get it ( will take long since they don't ship to Mexico, I'm having a relative bring it from Amazon)
