Gosh, I must have waaay overspent on my Lunt DS 60 H-alpha scope when I could have had this instead smile.gif

White light vs. HA.  If I actually had to choose, I'd don't know which one I would pick.

No, I haven’t tried this scope but have no need to as I already have several white light solar options to choose from.  Regardless of the pros and cons of the Svbony, there are a lot of low price options for those who already have a small refractor.

The problem is and it's only addressed by the low-end the market (due to materials cost and economic need), is weight.  No one as far as I know would turn down the ability to avoid a pound or two or more on any scope.  Yet some of the refractors out there seem to be designed to BE heavy.  No doubt selling into an American market where size and weight are valued above other things.  Some markets see the value in weight-savings.  My first mountain bike (1985) was 45lbs.  My last one was 26.

Has anyone tried a higher magnification with this scope beyond the eyepiece that was provided?
We used a 10mm plossl (40X) and the view was fine.

I'll throw a Meade 8-24(?) Zoom into the focuser: I usually swap back to the stock ep.

I’ve used a SvBony 7-21mm zoom on it but also found the included eyepiece a good match and so that was the default eyepiece while I had the scope.

Got one off Ali Express "Free shipping" but perhaps they had to shift shippers, it was going by mail, but because of the Canada Post strike, when it got here, I was charged $18 for some kind of brokerage fee (which is typical if an item is shipped UPS GROUND) from the U.S. to Canada, as an example.  Anyway, $38 U.S. total is not that much for the scope.

I seem to remember that, if you contact your bank ( or card issuer), you may get the brokerage fee rescinded. Worth a call or an email? That's up to you

I wonder why they had the price at $19.99 with Christmas coming? It does not make sense.

That's one thing about SVBONY: if you look at three different sites, you'll probably find three different prices. It pays to shop around with them ( and wait for a sale if you're able).

As far as the inexpensive price? I think they have a TON of these left over from the eclipse frenzy earlier this year.

UPS was sued in Canada for it, twice, and lost both times.  But a $10M-$20M slap on the wrist by a friendly judge isn't going to do much, not if they are  making  $20-$60 per shipment and there are multiple millions in a year.

Overloaded.  Most who bought them did it for the eclipse only so chances of selling them off are slim unless they blow them out, possibly at a loss.

Anyone remember when Ebay one time was awash in ETX's, all brand new and heavily discounted?

The moment that I saw your post I clicked on the link and ordered some SV510 Travel Telescopes.  Is it just me or are these solar telescopes now listed with a “Sorry, this item is no longer available” banner?  I see this warning on the right side of my screen.

The website claims that my shipment will arrive before Christmas.  I wonder if they are still taking orders for the SV510.  Either way, it seems like you just helped me with my plans to share the sun with everyone.  waytogo.gif

Did the order go through? I hope so. At $19.99 it's a no brainer. I don't imagine that you can get a solar filter at that price. I'm glad I got mine, please let me know that it gets shipped ( I'd hate to have given you bogus info, but I went on the site with my account, so I trusted that it wasn't a scam)

Finding the little solar scope for $19.99 is a lot like Snipe hunting smile.gif. I predict it will be much easier after the first of the year.

I took a shot. It will be a Saturnalia present for a young astronomer friend.

These crazy sales keep popping up on Aliexpress!  The price was down when I posted but it climbed back up a few minutes later.  Just now the prices are high but this pattern may continue for a while.

Thanks Don. Yeah, the rise and fall is CRAZY! I still think, at ~$20, it provides a nice introduction to Solar viewing
