Hi all.

I have a NexDome observatory, 8' diameter. Works fine except that the plastic block that is inserted on the dome in order to keep the sliding door from going too far (see image below) sometimes falls off when one is using too much force to close the door.

The part is only inserted (it has a slit), and I tried to glue it down with contact cement. Without much success.

Does anybody have improved on that part? I would be happy to find out... Cheers!

My suggestion would be to run a bolt through the dome into the block. Thread the block for best performance. Use a large flat washer to protect the dome. Fill the hole with RTV (and spread some on the mating faces) and reassemble.

I used a length of #12 copper electric cable.

Thanks for the replies. On mine (related to Jeff's video), when the block is inserted as instructed, it ends up in the right place. It just falls off sometimes... I like the cable/rope idea. Super!

From what I've seen it's pretty obvious no two domes are alike. I know the shutter rails on mine had like zero holes that aligned with the holes in the dome panel. They were also short and the bottom wheels fell out of the track when the shutter was fully open. The list of things that were issues is long but those are just two examples. That plastic block in my opinion was just a lazy attempt to fix a poorly engineered operation that should have been addressed in manufacturing.
