For a nere 300$+ it appears in the class of the Swarovski, Kowa and Leica premium zooms that cost $800-1000.

the above start at 60 degrees AF at low power, open up to near 80 degrees at max power

typical zooms start at about 38 degrees, premiums 47-50 degrees

The SVBoney starts at 57 degrees, 9 elements, one an asphere

It comes with 1.25” and a thread on 2” drawtube.

For spotting scope use the limited focus travel means the 2” tube has to go. I tried a Baader ClickLock but at 32mm tall could not reach infinity focus with the Optolyth. The thread for the SV needs to be 54mmx0.75mm. There is one Prima Lucia that is in the mail from Agena at 100 bucks, that has a 56mmx1mm female to engage the scope.

https://agenaastro.c...-stop-ring.html

CORRECTION THE ABOVE RING DOES NOT WORK! I AM INVESTIGATING

most scopes have a 42mmx0.75mm male. Agena has a ring $25 that has 54mmx0.75 male for the eyepiece end, and a 42mmx0.75mm female to engage the scope. Here I have Opticron 100mm APO (Pentax OEM), and the superior SVBoney 100mm APO spotter

Based on the very long thread about this eyepiece, it doesn’t sound like it is in the same class to me. Similar specs, yes.

Im in the early stages of getting it adapted, havent had a chance test or comparo

I saw a review indicating the SV equalled or exceeded the Tele Vue Delights

I'd like to see that review - do you have a link ?

I'm sceptical, in all honesty.

Let me know if reaches focus on the Optolyth 100? I use astro eps on the Optolyth 100 http://www.pt-ducks....00mm telescopes

I'm considering this ep since isn't possible to reach focus with the APM Superzoom on the Optolyth, as well as on most (all?) spotting scopes.

The Teje Vue Delite comparison was quoted somewhere in SVBony’s propaganda. Will see if I can refind.

As for the question about whether if focuses on the 100 Optolyth fluorite, it is what I am trying to answer.

update: the 2” barrel thread  into the body is hard to figure. It is NOT 54mm might be 55 or more, but it has a hyper fine thread, much smaller than 0.75mm and thus impossible to find an off the shelf ring, and I have abandoned.

I am asking Precise.Parts to quote on several rings, I expect about $100 each.

1) M56x1mm female to a T2 42mm 0.75mm for general compatability.

2) The same but with a low profile 1.25” ocular hole, thus use the 1.25 dia of the SV230.

3) M37x0.75 male to 1,25” lo profile ocular hiole w setscrew.

I am considering asking for a M56x1mm female to lo profile 2” ocular hole w setscrew, allowing use of the Tele Vue 2” to 1,25” countersunk adapter

any other adapters out there?

...

It's simple: remove the Optolyth ep and insert this zoom on the 1.25" version. Hold this zoom by hand (just to prevent any drop...), and see if it focus to the infinite - use also both focusers of the Optolyth. If it focus, we both will be happy. If not, see what is the serial number of your Optolyth and compare it to the ones I mentioned at the link I sent you - older models don't reach focus with most astro eps...

The SV focuses at infinity 1.25” barrel inserted in the 37mm hole all the way.

precious few mm to spare making adapter requirements tricky

A 6mm plossl focuses just at the very bottom

The Tele Vue In Travel adapter for countersunk ocular will NOT fit

i dont see the sn ranges, i dont find a sn on the scope, looks possibly a label gone

Nice it reaches focus!...waytogo.gif

You have the straight version or the 45º of the Optolyth?

The sn is at the "foot" of the spotting scope, eyepiece side, over the plate of the tripod head.

Sorry, the sn issue is mentioned at http://www.pt-ducks....#Our experience - "(beware that an older telescope (serial number 125528) of the same model doesn’t have enough focus range to this eyepiece. Even on my telescope (serial number 126475) it’s very close to a limit – always test the eyepiece on the telescope before buying it…)"

Sn 130773

Angled version, for astronomy

I love this scope, just want more versatility than the 2 to 1  30-60x

I presume they dont sell with the 3 to 1 zoom is some compatibility problem. Anyone tried with? Will have the right threads! Might satisfy me.

Too bad the 1.25” Astro adapter no longer available; with set screw added would be the answer.

hopefully Precise.Parts will have a quote for me. Will report here

The 30-60x Optolyth zoom makes no sense... If you read the link I sent you, you will see that I have the older 20-60x zoom for the 100 and last 2 versions of the 20-60x zoom for the 80 model that result on 30-90x on 100 - I used always one of these for my day-light use! The best quality image, with zooms, is with the Baader zoom (result on 26-76x) and you can use a 1.6x barlow cell with it to achieve a equivalent 42-126x. 5mm astro eps also work great! I had a Radian 4mm but didn't liked it for my day-light use.

It's a pity that the last owner of Optolyth factory stopped the sport optics production, since the relation of quality/price was very good. However, I recommend you to not try a Kowa 99 or a Swaro X95/X115...grin.gif The use of this zoom with the Optolyth 100 will result closer to the mentioned brand models, at least on AFOVs - will see the image quality - I hope this zoom will also reach focus on my Optolyth 100 straight version... wink.gif

Hard to tell but you have the original M37 to 1.25” astro adapter? Looks like if Precise.Parts can make me the equivalent this will be my final answer

The Opto 20-60x zoom has too restricted a field. The Baader and the Sv230 are the answer

I had sent a couple questions to SVBony re the SV230 and their 100mm APO spotter,

and their answer in part:

In addition, the two-inch thread size of SV230 is M48.
If you want to install SV230 on SA401, we do not recommend that you do so.
The SV230 eyepiece is prone to out of focus when used with a birding scope.
Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.
