I am in Perquimans county. Anyone know of any groups/clubs in any of the NE NC counties? Would also appreciate any good astronomy sites that others use as I live in downtown Hertford. Not a dark sky community.

If you're close to the NC/VA line, don't forget to check out clubs in southern Virginia. I found a club in VA that was quite a bit closer to home than NC clubs and alot closer to dark skies

I live in the northwest part of NC. The closest club in our state to my house is in Winston-Salem, a fairly large city that's over a 2 hour round trip away, so I was reluctant to join when starting in the hobby since I knew I wouldn't be able to make it to the meetings very often.

I have a friend who's a park ranger at our local Stone Mountain State Park. She told me about a group of astronomers who setup there from time-to-time for outreach and invited me to join them one night. I meet to really awesome guys who turned out to be members of Echo Ridge Astronomical Society, which they invited me to join. They have their monthly meetings in Independence VA, which is quite a bit closer to home and has the benefit of being located in a lot smaller town with nowhere near the amount of light pollution. To top it off, several of the members live fairly close and almost all of us have decent skies to observe under.
