Hello There,

*goodnight!*

Sharing this binoculars with metal body, a relic that was left to me from my grandmother.

I don't know the manufacturer or model or nationality, it came from Europe by ship, the information I have/remember is that it belonged to my grandmother's father or grandfather, who was a military man

I suspect the binoculars may be military, although there are similar binoculars that are opera models

I have never seen the exact same model on the internet
it looks like some French models, Deraisme Paris military BINOCULARS for example.

Thanks

Best Regards

J.

Yes, those look like WWI vintage. I got a similar pair when I was in Germany in 1960. My father was stationed (US Army) near Ludwigsburg, Germany. I was 10 at the time and traded some very valuable comic books for my binoculars wink.gif  My research on them showed that they are not valuable. When the war started, the demand was very high for these so everyone that could made them. After the war, the demand collapsed an so did many economies. So the manufacturers either closed shop or returned to making peace time products. I've kept mine as a souvenir of those times. Best of luck to you! borg.gif

Well, now we only have the memory, but I think it was worth the exchange. grin.gif

Those were opera glasses. Very common, they turn up in op-shops here. Not for any serious use, and not collectible/valuable.

Thanks for your reply, so they are opera, nice!
The value of mine is sentimental, a memory of my grandparents wink.gif

They were possibly used for opera after WWI but from my research that was not their intended purpose. Opera glasses were much more ornate. Often with inlay of shell or other fancy materials. They also had a handle so they could be used with one hand. During WWI, seeing deeper into enemy lines could mean life or death. Just like production of peacetime products switched from bicycles to bombs, small optical shops switched from microscopes to binoculars. Anyway, they are fun memento's of a time long ago and luxo II is right about them not being valuable. A ton of them were made to support the war effort borg.gif

This is a modern rendition of true opera glasses.
